I’m out $194.02, even though the owner says he can only refund $185. He keeps telling me he sent a copy of the receipt, but the charge never came back to my account. My credit card company says there’s no way to retrieve it unless he issues the refund. When I called, he claimed he’d already refunded me and texted a screenshot of a so-called Square app receipt. His wife usually says he isn’t there, then somehow he’s on the phone a minute or two later. He charged my card for all three nights three days before we arrived, even though I booked with the option to cancel after seeing the rooms. The room was filthy, with holes across the carpet and stains and burn marks I couldn’t identify. What a real dump. People, don’t stay here. They should be shut down. Real crooks.

We came five hours for a wedding, but the room was so nasty we left. A dead roach was right in the middle of the floor, the beds looked slept in, and one sheet had yellow stains all over it. There were dead bugs and a toenail under the pillow. When I pulled the bed from the wall, I found about two inches of dust, bugs, and fingernails behind it. Hair was stuck all over the shower, with a big patch of yellow slime on the wall. The TV and fridge were sticky and slimy, and there was another guest’s receipt from a month earlier on the floor. I’d booked for July 19 and 20, and it struck me as odd that they charged the full balance on the 16th. At the desk, the lady offered us another room when I said we weren’t staying. No! Roaches don’t stick to one room. She got defensive and wouldn’t refund either night, saying our plans had changed. We only decided to stay elsewhere because the place was filthy. She said three times she’d call me to discuss it, but I had to call her. Every time, it was, “Let me talk to my manager and call you back.”

The two first-floor rooms smelled awful, and the carpet was covered in stains. The lower walls and baseboards were really dirty and discolored. It looked like the whole first floor had flooded at some point and hadn’t been properly repaired. There was mold on the wall behind the hallway ice machine, too. The upstairs room seemed okay at first, though its shower curtain was covered in mold and stains. We had three rooms in the new building for a family reunion, one upstairs and two downstairs. They charged us $10 more than the quoted price, and we had to call back to get that refunded. The rooms are dated and not worth what they charge. When I visit family here again, I’ll drive farther to Mitchel and stay somewhere that takes proper care of its rooms.

We needed two rooms for two nights for a family funeral, which wasn’t something we could plan ahead for, and the owners were very accommodating, especially with it being pheasant hunting season. The staff were kind and caring, and the hotel met our needs. It’s dated, like hotels in tiny towns tend to be, but the rooms are spacious and clean, the beds are great, and breakfast is available.

I’m only giving it a second star because our room had three beds, which worked well for four of us since only one pair was a couple. The first room was dirty, with a slept-in bed, garbage in the bins, and towels all over the bathroom floor. The second room was clean, but the shower had almost no pressure and the water was extremely cold. It cost $84 American, which is worse when I’ve stayed in much nicer motels for less. Don’t waste your time or money.
