The Patrician Hollywood Universal

I stayed at The Patrician Hollywood Universal a while ago, and I’m only writing now, but I still think about how special it was. The quiet, safe neighborhood sits above the Rose Bowl, and the Mediterranean-style mansion on the hill has sweeping views across Pasadena and the valley. The room was comfortable and peaceful. I loved sitting with coffee on the terraces or in the common areas, enjoying the view. Breakfast was another highlight, generous and unhurried, and served with care. I especially remember two long, relaxed mornings over breakfast with the TJ. The host (TJ) is warm, gracious, and attentive, and the whole stay felt like being welcomed into an elegant private home instead of a typical hotel. I left wishing I’d stayed longer. Better late than never: I’m grateful for the experience and would happily return and recommend The Patrician to anyone looking for a refined, personal place to stay.

The views from this beautiful home were amazing, and we had a wonderful stay. T.J was a kind, attentive host. I’d recommend it to anyone visiting LA.

A peaceful oasis, and we wished we could’ve stayed longer. The home was extremely comfortable, with gorgeous rooms and beautiful views. TJ is a charming, wonderful host with lots of knowledge about local restaurants and sights. We felt like we’d made new friends while we were there.

I spent a wonderful, almost magical week at the Patrician, perched on Pasadena’s western hills. The rooms, grounds, and views were all great, but TJ was the best part. He’s the owner and host, and the house is filled with amazing things he collected on his travels around the world, especially in SE Asia. TJ makes delicious breakfasts in his comfortable, high-tech kitchen and serves them at the six-stool island or out on the patio. He gives each guest his attention and is one of the most interesting, thoughtful, and generous people I’ve met. I hope I can get a room at the Patrician on my next LA trip.
