Lachicotte Vacation Rentals

Lovering is a classic old PI “arrogantly shabby” beach house, and I first stayed there 31 years ago. The location is great, with a creek dock and a hammock on the porch. I’ve been coming to PI for decades. This time, though, it didn’t feel very clean. There was no heat in the upstairs bedrooms, the TV didn’t work and the bathroom outlet was dead. The sink had a plumbing problem, but Lachicotte fixed that promptly when I called. I didn’t call about the heat, TV or outlet.

We loved the older home’s charm, the hammock, and the rocking chairs on all the porches. The Cathcart house has plenty of space, and though it sleeps 13, there were just five of us. The wifi was sufficient. There’s a private dock on the causeway as well as a private walkway down to the beach. We also appreciated the recycling, which I felt was missing at the Litchfield townhomes. Just read the fine print about linens. It wasn’t a problem, but it caught us off guard. Great location and a great place.

We’re sad to be leaving PPV after spending multiple weeks there each year for more than a decade. The sole reason is Lachicotte, the current management company. Don’t let the positive reviews distract you. If you have a bad experience, they simply don’t have integrity. One star is one too many. Stay far away from this company.

We left a day early and drove home because our stay at Neon Moon was so bad. The house and location could have been great, but the management company and/or owner seemed completely inept. We arrived to a house at 52 degrees, with no home instructions. The only welcome packet, which had the door code, had been left out on the porch of the management office all night where anyone could take it. That’s unsafe and needs to change. We couldn’t connect to wifi without instructions, and the cheap TV had no batteries in its remote and couldn’t be turned on manually. There were dirty clothes in the chest of drawers, no amenities at all, not even salt and pepper, shampoo or conditioner. They tried to make a king bed with a queen fitted sheet, and there were no other sheets, so we had to try sleeping on an itchy blanket instead of the bare mattress. We contacted the management company, but they brushed us off. They apologized for the sheets and said we should have called the front desk, as if we were at a hotel where someone would answer at 1 a.m. Did I mention it was New Year’s Eve? Awful.
