The Oceanfront Litchfield Inn

The extra charges were the breaking point, so I canceled. There was a daily departure cleaning fee of about $22, plus a nearly $50 damage waiver due at check-in that wasn't refundable even if nothing was damaged. I had booked a “Dunes Oceanfront” room through a third-party site, but Litchfield Inn’s system showed me in a Resort View Lodge room. When I raised the mismatch, management brushed it aside, then asked me to produce receipts to prove their records were wrong while trying to add more fees that hadn't been disclosed. I felt misled about both the room and the costs. If you want the room you paid for and expect straightforward dealings, I'd stay somewhere else.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and our room was a good size and clean. The oceanfront views were excellent. After 10 pm, though, the hallways were noisier than I expected, and the queen beds seemed a bit smaller than standard queens.

The room itself was nice, and the food was good. At the restaurant, there was just one server, so we waited about half an hour before anyone came to our table. The manager stepped in and did a great job making up for the staffing shortage. Housekeeping is charged per day, but we came back after being out all day to find it hadn't been done. There was a pile of towels in the bathroom corner, while the bed was still unmade, the trash remained, and the towels hadn't been hung. The daily charge wasn't included in the rates shown upfront, either. When I told the front desk employee, he interrupted me twice and dismissed the complaint. I also saw another customer mention broken lights several times; the employee only seemed to make a note after they had repeated it a third time, and just long enough for them to leave. Paying for housekeeping and then not getting it, along with being brushed off, left a bad impression.

Update: Litchfield followed up after seeing the dispute, listened to me, and took the right steps to address the error. I’ve changed my rating to 4/5. I still think some hosts’ practices can be misleading, and I believe the condo owners should have done their due diligence. I don't blame the property itself, and I appreciate that Litchfield heard me out. My original problem was with an Airbnb booking. The host charged undisclosed fees at check-in that weren't listed or approved through Airbnb. Support told me those charges shouldn't have been collected outside the platform, but the host refused to refund them and insisted they were valid. The stay itself was fine, but the extra costs were frustrating and misleading. The host kept describing them as “included in rate” and “paid at booking,” even though I was charged at check-in. The property said they'd call me back after I raised it, but they never did. Airbnb confirmed I was right, so I had to file a resolution report through the platform to seek a refund. The host, Jason, hasn't replied and has automated replies turned on. Be careful, check the reviews, and verify all costs through Airbnb before booking.
