Angela was a standout when we ate at 10:15 AM on 12/30/25. She was so good that I’d like to see her assigned to manage the Shipyard at The Inn on Peaks. She said she has management experience, and the restaurant badly needs someone with more than a pulse running it. We summer there, and it’s abysmal that The Inn on Peaks doesn’t have a better restaurant. The food itself was excellent: the BBQ Sandwich and Smasburger came with crispy, delicious fries, and the Bloody Marys were top rate. Airport food would definitely be an upgrade with Shipyard as an option. Thank you for considering my suggestion!

The inn is in a great spot, just up the hill from the ferry landing. The ride from Portland costs $14 round trip, takes about 15 minutes, and gives you a lovely view of Casco Bay and the surrounding area. There aren’t many restaurants on the island, and this one is a good option. We stayed two nights in early August in the ram Island suite, which had a king bed, living room, refrigerator, back patio, and balcony overlooking the main hill down to the ferry. We were very pleased with the suite. The inn was quiet, and we didn’t run into any of the other guests. There’s no front desk, so questions have to go to the restaurant staff or the number listed in the room. We also had lunch here during a busy spell and had no complaints like some other reviewers. Our burger, fish tacos, fries, and beers were good, the staff was friendly, and service was quick. The other tables seemed to be getting timely service too.

The restaurant is adorable, and the people were pleasant, but dinner was a disappointment. The chowder was salty and tasteless, while the coleslaw had a sour taste and wasn’t edible. The fish tacos had an odd combination of avocado mash and fried fish, and the chicken sandwich came with the same sauce as the tacos. We came because no other places on the island were open for service. We’re a family of five, all over 16, and had only the chowder, chicken sandwich, fish tacos, water, and lemonade. Even so, the bill was more than any other dinner during our stay, including meals at great restaurants in Portland. It was extremely expensive for what we got.

The lobster lunch was actually quite superb, with mussels, corn, potato, lemonade, and a sliver of dessert. We came for a group lobster bake with a ships tour group, but the staffing was short. I sat beside a bar and asked for a beer, yet the staff were too busy to serve me. It felt like the idea was to get us in and out. That was disappointing, especially since there isn’t much else around while you wait for the next ferry back to Portland.

Our family and wedding party rented the entire Inn for our stay, so it felt like sharing one big house. We got married there four days ago, and it was the BEST experience. The staff were thoughtful, accommodating, pleasant, and very present throughout. The rooms are gorgeous, and the front decks gave us lovely views of downtown and the water. We could enjoy a bit of the island from our balconies, and our guests were amazed by the facility and grounds. The restaurant served food and drinks the night before the wedding, and everyone enjoyed their meals. We can’t say enough about the whole experience. We’ll definitely be back!
