Motel 6 Pendleton, OR

For a $400 one-night stay, this was an awful experience. The sink barely drained and nearly overflowed whenever we used it. The heater smelled like something was burning, so in the middle of the night we turned it off and stayed cold rather than wake my sick daughter. Then, while we were getting dressed the next morning, an employee tried to walk into our room without saying who they were. The latch stopped her. Around 10:25, another employee tried to come in and woke my daughter, whom I'd been trying to let sleep until checkout. I didn't want to deal with the team, so I contacted corporate after we left. They offered only a mailed check for less than half what I paid. Having two employees try to enter while I was alone with my two young children, on top of the broken heater and sink, made this a horrible stay.

Hampton Inn is our number one choice when we travel. We stayed at the Hampton Inn here while buying our home, and they made us feel comfortable. The place is always clean, the bedding is good, and the people are nice. If you stay in hotels enough, it beats staying with family. If you haven't tried Hampton Inn, it's twice as nice as any old Holiday Inn.

The staff made the stay for me. Everyone was professional and friendly, with the feel of a business-class hotel. The room was clean, and the hot breakfast each morning was the real deal, with eggs, potatoes, waffles, and more. There were working EV chargers in back for the Cybertruck. It was a little noisy because the hotel is right by the interstate, and the heater/AC kept cycling on and off with no option to leave it running constantly. Still, everything else was great.

Breakfast was the most positive part of the stay: it was clean and well stocked. The room, though, didn't seem properly cleaned at all. We found popped sheets, debris in the toilet, trash under the fresh liner, blonde hair in the sheets even though my partner and I both have black hair, and food on the duvet cover. The shower had almost no water pressure, and dust and debris circulated because the HVAC had no filter. The room was oddly split between an updated living area and an old, yellow bathroom. After a nine-hour cross-country drive from WA to IN, we were exhausted. We asked for another room but found no one at the desk, waited ten minutes, then gave up, cleaned up, and went to bed. When we arrived, nobody was at the desk for about ten minutes. My partner went in first, then I came in and the staff member didn't speak to me. She checked us in without showing us to the elevator. When we asked about nearby food, she said, “yeah idk,” and only mentioned breakfast as we were walking away. We both worked in hotels for about ten years, so we tried to give her the benefit of the doubt in case she'd had a bad day. Later, we called the hotel and spoke with a great guest service representative who kept apologizing. She said Heather would contact us Monday, but we heard nothing, so we called. The Monday morning representative was rude and abrasive, and seemed more interested in defending the manager than resolving the issue. We won't stay here again.
