Best Western Plus Philadelphia-Pennsauken Hotel

My stay was easy and comfortable from the start. Kris, the General Manager, kindly let me check in early when I arrived, and Chetna was attentive and answered all my questions. The room was very clean and comfortable, and housekeeping was courteous and thorough. The staff provided professional service throughout.

The road noise was really loud. I didn't bring a decibel meter, and I'm not especially sensitive to noise, but the poor insulation meant I barely slept. The hotel is very close to the main road. There weren't any bars or restaurants within walking distance, and the area didn't feel like somewhere I'd want to walk around anyway. Finding a decent place to stay around here is tough.

The front desk woman who helped me when I arrived was the part I appreciated most. I was traveling for work and got there early, and when I asked about checking in ahead of time she said “sure!” almost right away. That was lovely and rare. The staff, breakfast and hot chocolate on tap in the lobby coffee machine made this a worthy choice for a night or two, even though the location is in New Jersey and about nine minutes from a semi-scary urban northeast downtown area with lots of police action and BLM supporters behaving badly at night. Those nine minutes made the property feel safer and more civilized after dark. The Best Western Plus concept can mean pretty decent accommodations for the price, and this location was no exception. There isn't a bar or restaurant on site, despite that often being part of the Plus designation. The rooms were nice enough, with updated furnishings and standard amenities. The rest of the interior was in good shape, with recent carpet, fresh paint on the walls, working light fixtures and an impressively clean feel. I care more these days about getting a nice hot breakfast. The independent owners seem to feel the same: it was standard fare, prepared and presented about as well as possible without a real commercial kitchen, and included in the room price. One more thing I forgot to mention: the lobby has a fancy digital coffee machine that worked flawlessly and could make hot chocolate. Hot chocolate on tap!

A real all-in-one place to stay: breakfast in the morning, a small store for a few items, a weight room, and laundry where you can wash and dry your clothes. The housekeepers were very nice even though not all of them speak English, and the front desk people were nice too.
