Regency Towers by Southern Vacation Rentals

I’d stayed here before and liked it, so I came back expecting a similar experience. This time was a letdown from the start: the reservation process was awful, and the room wasn’t clean. There was a dead smell on the sofa, like children had used the bathroom on it. The master bathroom ceiling had mold and dust, the kitchen vents had mold too, and the refrigerator hadn’t been cleaned. The kitchen faucet kept dripping, the other shower was messed up, and the microwave wouldn’t heat food. The beds felt harder than a sidewalk. They charged a $278 cleaning fee, but this room, number 108 on the East side, didn’t look cleaned. I was going to clean it myself, then decided I shouldn’t have to when someone is being paid nearly $300 to do that job. The cable and internet kept cutting out all day, so I couldn’t watch TV. I didn’t call anyone because I expect a rental to be kept up to standard, not rushed through just to make a sale. We were planning another trip in a couple of months. I’d told all my friends about this place, but now I have to find somewhere else. My supposedly stress-free weekend became more stressful. I couldn’t watch TV or heat my food, couldn’t sit on the sofa, and had to use the other bathroom so I wouldn’t breathe in the mold. Sorry for the rant.

The location is great, but some things here really need attention. I stayed again for a full week after an earlier visit that had been okay. The beach ramp wasn’t wheelchair accessible, unlike the ramp at the neighboring Regency Cabanas, so I couldn’t take my mom down to the beach. At the pool, the seats were too low for her to get up from safely, so we brought a regular chair and a tent and set them well out of everyone’s way. The pool attendant who closed at night said that was fine. The next morning Mike, a very rude daytime employee, came over angrily and started barking at us. When we explained that the pool attendant had approved it, Mike called him a stoner. He said he didn’t care about my mom and that she could sit outside the pool. I was stunned by how he spoke to us and about his coworker. He also made a fuss about our chair while other people brought chairs into the pool area. The double standard was unacceptable.

Regency Towers-704 West is our favorite condo, and we always enjoy staying there. The ocean view is perfect, and the condo itself is lovely and up to date. The lobby looks great and always smells clean. The boardwalk to the beach is well kept, with spots to rinse your feet.

For condos built in the 1970s, these are pretty good. The maintenance and service crew are friendly and top notch. One bedroom TV had a cable issue, and the cable box wasn’t plugged in. The internet still wasn’t working right on the TV, so they had to arrange a visit from the cable company. The maintenance representative here seems able to fix just about anything. Housekeeping needs to do better, though. Guests shouldn’t find dust in the condo.
