Hampton Inn Perry

I had a pile of small problems during this one-night stay, and together they made a mess. There was no conditioner in the shower. At dinner, a local told me they were tearing the place down because they had just built the Hilton Garden Inn next door. At 5 AM an alarm started going off in the vacant room beside me, and it kept going for 30 minutes. Nobody answered when I called the front desk. Breakfast had a pretty gross selection. When I got back to my room, my card wouldn't work. The desk clerk rekeyed both keys, then gave me a new one, but none worked. I went back a third time and told her she'd have to come let me in. I just got out of there. Then I was double charged. There was a pending refund, so I thought it was being handled, but this morning the charge combined into one posted charge and the pending credit disappeared. My Honors account now says the stay was cancelled, so there's no record of it. And now the room charge is $161? I don't think that's what I originally agreed to when I booked. I wouldn't spend that much on an overnight work trip. This all feels so shady. I'm not sure I'll ever stay at another Hampton or Hilton.

I was told at check-in that the final price included taxes and the pet fee, but after we left they charged me another pet fee in the morning. When I called, they said I probably misunderstood. I wouldn't pay over $250 for this room. It wasn't worth $150 in the condition it was in. We spent one night passing through to Florida, and it felt like a way to rip people off.

The rooms smelled so bad we couldn't sleep, and even the lobby was a little musty. The supposed two queen beds were only full size and hard as rocks. The website showed $112, but after saying she was giving me a discount, they charged $176 for each room. The refrigerator wasn't cold, one toilet was clogged when we arrived, and they handed us a plunger. Breakfast was sparse. The orange juice tasted metallic, like it came from a can, and both the white and chocolate milk tasted spoiled. Neither shower had body wash. The shower head may have been nice 10 or 15 years ago, but it's worn out now, so half the water ran straight onto the faucet and splashed onto the floor. The curtain wouldn't stay by the wall because they used the wrong rod. One sink had a dried ribbon of caulk on the backsplash that looked like toothpaste nobody wiped off. The stopper in the other sink was broken, so once pushed in, there was no way to pull it back out and use the sink.

The first room smelled of mold and pork rinds. Its door had been left open and was hard to close because moisture had soaked in and made it swell. I asked for a different room, hoping to sleep somewhere better, but the damp smell in the new one gave me a headache right away. The light wouldn't turn on, the AC wouldn't go beyond low, and the phone didn't work when I tried to call the front desk. I checked out and stayed somewhere else.
