Metro Hotel and Cafe

We found it easy to walk from the hotel to the main downtown strip, and parking was free. The whole place has a charming French feel, from the clawfoot tubs and classroom maps to French radio playing all day in the breakfast cafe. Staff were friendly throughout, and we got a nice surprise when our room was freshened up during our two-day stay. Breakfast has coffee and crepes at a pretty reasonable price. My one wish is that the in-room espresso pods were included, as they would be in France. Looking forward to coming back.

For our 25th anniversary, we rented the conference room for dinner with 15 people. The staff coordinated with our caterer and confirmed the space and setup, and we could use the TV to show a slideshow. The attached cafe made cleanup easier and added to the lovely atmosphere. We also rented rooms for the celebration, and they were perfect, quirky and cute with a distinct feel. It’s a boutique hotel with plenty to offer at an affordable price. We’d happily recommend staying here or having a small gathering of 20 or fewer.

We really enjoyed our few nights here. The beds were extra cozy, and the shower felt like standing under a huge waterfall. The location was great, and all the staff were really nice. We had to change our trip dates at the last minute because of the storm, and Metro let us do it without a fee. After dealing with another hotel that was difficult about it, that was refreshing. The cafe is for guests, and you can use it most hours, though they ask people not to hang out very late. Service there is only during breakfast. Breakfast itself was simple and freshly made. One early morning before breakfast began, the self-serve coffee had run out of ground beans and the big bag for grinding was empty. Espresso pods in the room cost $3, so we went to Starbucks instead. The room fridge is for the minibar, but there’s a shared guest fridge in the cafe. The minibar is well stocked. I accidentally called the emergency number when I meant to call the regular one, and the owner answered on Christmas Eve. They insisted on helping us troubleshoot the TV instead of having us call back. Turns out it had just been unplugged during cleaning, haha. We’d stay again.

Loved the delightfully quirky Hotel Metro. It felt like a Wes Anderson fever dream of a Parisian hotel filtered through Roadside America. The staff and room were both great, and vintage downtown Petaluma is about a 10-minute walk away. Completely charming, even for just one night.
