Quality Inn Petoskey

The good reviews gave me high hopes, but none of it came through. Even with the heater off, the room was so hot and there was no way to control the temperature. The pool and hot tub were out of order, and the tub was dirty with visible hair. The sink wouldn’t drain, and the coffee pot didn’t work either.

The pool was nice, and we got a good breakfast every morning. The staff helped us with local suggestions beyond our ski plans and were great while we were there. My only reason for giving four stars instead of five is that the hot tub wasn’t working during our visit. Thank you!

For a room we could barely tolerate, we had to leave the window open and run the bathroom exhaust fan the whole time just to make it possible to sleep. That helped a little, but guests shouldn’t need to do that for basic comfort. I can’t recommend this place without major improvements to upkeep, cleanliness, and quality control. The price is competitive, but that value takes a hit when advertised amenities don’t work. The staff were friendly and welcoming, though that was the only positive. The hot tub was out of order, which looks like a recurring problem from previous reviews. We were in Room 231, and an overwhelming mildew odor hit as soon as we opened the door. The room seemed poorly maintained or ventilated. Basic supplies had also been missed. There was no hand soap, and the toilet paper roll had just one wrap left, though an extra roll was on the tank. Those oversights made the housekeeping standards look poor.

The only thing I’d change is the hot tub temperature, it needed to be hotter after skiing. The Citi travel price was really good, and the place was nice, clean, and easy to reach. Breakfast was outstanding. I’ll definitely stay again when I’m at the Highlands. Highly recommend.
