I booked more than a month ahead, then got an email asking me to verify my identity less than 24 hours before check-in. I’d never seen that before, so I called the hotel and reached an offshore call center. They said there was no front desk and I had to complete the verification or I couldn’t check in. Since the booking was non-refundable and my plans were already set, I went through the driver’s license and selfie capture. They sent me an access code, the same one for the front door, elevator, and room. When I arrived late, someone was smoking at the entrance and used his code to let himself in. I felt awkward following him, then his code didn’t work in the elevator, so I used mine. On the third-floor lobby, there was a passed-out drunk guy. He insisted he was fine when I checked on him, but this shouldn’t happen at a hotel. I couldn’t know whether he was supposed to be there, and that wasn’t my job. The room had confusing lights and a strange IoT device on the wall that blinked all night until I covered it with a blanket. I’m also fairly positive the bathroom fan couldn’t be turned off, and there was something that looked like a camera lens behind a slightly transparent piece of plastic. Totally unacceptable. If the hotel has no employees on site and requires identity verification, that should happen before someone pays for a non-refundable booking.

Awful experience. There was nobody to check us in, and we couldn’t get into the room. We called the number posted in the elevator, but the off-site person couldn’t help us get in, so we left and stayed in Old City at the Klimpton. It cost more, but I didn’t feel like I was risking my life, sanity, or my family’s safety. Spend more for a real hotel, or choose an air bnb where someone is there to help. This was nonsense. I may call 311 and report them. I have no idea how this is legal.

The room was sad, small, and didn’t even have a cot or couch. There was nobody working there besides security, so there was no one to ask for help. I also found loose light fixtures and a musty bathroom. A day before we arrived, after booking months earlier, my friend and I got an email saying they couldn’t give us the two beds we needed. Their options, in their words, were an “upgrade” to one king bed or cancel. I almost never leave bad reviews, but this was something else.

The entry code didn’t work for me or other guests, and there was no human concierge to help. It was already night. I tried calling, but the manager was “unavailable.” Luckily, I could stay with a friend that evening, though all my things were still at the hotel. I can’t imagine what I would’ve done without contacts in the city. This hotel is NOT SAFE! DO NOT STAY HERE.

People were filling the entire lobby, calling Expedia and trip advisor because they couldn’t get checked in. This hotel uses self check-in but doesn’t send the information ahead of time. Don’t book through Expedia, trip advisor, or another third-party service.
