Harbor Inn Philipsburg

The bathroom needs work, and the towels didn't look clean. There was black mold all over the toilet seat, while the sheets had stains and holes.

The room was in rough shape. The curtains wouldn't open or close, and the bedspread had several holes. There was a large spider web behind the main door, and no drinking glasses in the room. Both the ice machine and drink machine were out of order. In the bathroom, the ceiling showed water damage and there was mold around the tub. The toilet hadn't been cleaned, with a thick layer of dust around its base and the toilet paper holder. Its seat hinge was broken, as was the bathroom door hinge. Apparently some rooms have been renovated or are being worked on.

The room smelled of smoke, and it was a sketchy place, but on that night I was glad to have a roof over my head. Several years ago, I was trying to reach Altoona during a bad snowstorm. It took me five hours to drive from Warren to Philipsburg. I was on 80, but got off at an exit because the trucks were driving recklessly. I didn't know what to do until I came around a corner and saw a big sign for this hotel. Everyone else had stopped there too, and I was probably one of the last two people to get a room. This isn't normally on my list of places to stay, but that night it saved my life.

I planned to stay two nights and left after just one. There were bugs all over the floor, so I had to buy cleaning supplies, and the room smelled like disgusting food. In the middle of the night, someone overdosed. Find somewhere else to stay.
