Central Phoenix Hotel

This was one of my favorite places to stay for a scientific conference. It’s a modest, fun experience, and I’d recommend it to anyone looking for that. The hotel is very affordable and centrally located. The rooms are comfortable and cool, with excellent AC and WiFi. Road noise wasn’t a problem for me because the walls and curtains are thick enough to block it out. The flat, fairly simple layout also makes it incredibly disability friendly. Some amenities may be what you’d expect at a three-star hotel, and they’re actively renovating and updating the place. The staff are kind, too. I realized I’d arrived a day early for my reservation, and they let me buy an extra night and check in four hours early. Just keep in mind that late check-ins have to go through the night window.

There’s clearly work underway to improve the place. I saw a contractor finishing some work, and although it’s affordable, it could use a lot of simple improvements. I don’t completely regret staying, but next time I’d book farther ahead and see if I could find somewhere nicer at a similar price. Room cleaning was hit or miss. Some days they cleaned nicely and replenished bathroom supplies; other days they left only a couple of fresh towels. Communication was inconsistent as well. There wasn’t always anyone at the front desk, and the phone would eventually stop ringing. The door to my room had significant gaps and should seal better. I’d also appreciate better security. A group of people were hanging outside my door and being loud at 2-3 AM.

The family who owns this hotel is remodeling it, and it’s looking really nice. I was a little skeptical because of the location, but it felt safe, clean, and comfortable, and it was a good deal. Wonderful experience, highly recommended 👌

The staff were the only reason I’d consider staying again. They were really kind and helpful. Check-in and check-out were super quick, and the rooms were clean and comfy, except the floor looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in a while. Don’t walk around barefoot. My first impression was dampened by the construction, though I can’t fully blame them for that. There was no free breakfast, either :(
