Hilton Phoenix Resort at the Peak

The water park gave our family a fun place to spend time, and the meal was good even though the food was a bit pricey. Our room was clean and looked well cared for. We stayed a few days and had an awesome time. I’d recommend it.

The pool was clean and fine, but the room and breakfast made this one of the worst hotel stays I’ve had. We were in town for a WNBA game and vacation with the family, and I wouldn’t recommend this place to my worst enemy. Dust had collected in piles along the baseboards, bugs were in the bedding, and the bathroom door wouldn’t shut. The AC didn’t work, so the room stayed scorching hot, never dropping below 89 degrees. My kids’ bare feet turned black from walking on the floor, so we started wearing shoes inside. Breakfast was happening during renovations, and we later learned it was being cooked in a makeshift food truck behind the restaurant. The food came out cold and basically inedible, with the look and taste of packaged food reheated in a microwave. I also watched our waiter pick up bacon that had fallen on the tray with his bare hands and put it back on the plate. We were charged more than $100 for that meal. Do not stay here.

The view from the patio was entirely construction, with an inordinate amount of work going on around the property. There was vomit on the mini golf course, though the water park itself was nice enough. Inside, the rooms look nicely renovated, but the cleaning wasn’t good. The rug was heavily stained, and my son found the remote buried in the couch with Cheerios. The bathroom’s white grout wasn’t white, and there was melted water in the ice bucket. Even with it being a holiday weekend, paying over $300 for a night felt hard to accept.

The room depended on its location, but construction was extremely noisy by 7:30 in the morning. That was especially unfortunate for my ill sister, who was getting a second opinion at the Mayo Clinic. She needed sleep after painful, difficult nights, and our room faced the construction site. We got a good rate because of her appointment. It was my first time in Phoenix, and the city felt completely car dependent, though the hotel was within driving distance of many places. The golf cart driver who took us to our room was great and carried most of our luggage in the elevator. There’s ample parking, a nice lobby, outdoor seating by the bar, a great ice machine, and bright bedside lights that could use a dimmer. The hotel is all suites, with the usual all-white bedding. A lot of basics were missing or awkward: no sheets, pillows, or blanket in the pullout-couch closet; one dresser for three people, outside the bedroom; a tiny fridge; no bathroom trash can or shower shelf; and a toilet paper holder placed so you have to reach back, with the roll falling out as you use it. The website said there was a microwave in the room, but there wasn’t. Room service and concierge were listed on the phone but not available, and the elevators were very slow. High-speed internet costs extra, which feels like a money grab for something that could be a low-cost perk. There’s no shelf for personal items in the large, nice shower. My bedside lighting was bright and could use dimming. There’s one dresser for three people, outside the bedroom area, and the fridge is extremely small. We had a good rate through my sister’s Mayo Clinic appointment, but the construction noise was a real problem.
