Hyatt Regency Phoenix

We had a clean room on the 21st floor, and it was very quiet during our four-night mid-February stay. The tub held water properly, and the pool got sun around noon, unlike the Renaissance next door at that time of year. The convention center is as close as it gets, and having a restaurant and food cafeteria downstairs was handy. Everyone was pleasant. I'd stay here again.

The rooms were very clean and the shower was excellent. But I prepaid for two rooms through booking.com and was still charged at the property, even after telling them I'd paid through the third party. The couch had a wire sticking out, making it uncomfortable to sleep on, and the mattress also needs replacing because it was uncomfortable.

The billing problems and low service level, along with security concerns, mean I wouldn't recommend this Regency. On arrival I couldn't get valet help because a shirtless homeless man was on a rampage at the hotel patio bar. Staff said police had previously just ticketed him, which didn't seem likely to resolve things; he came back angrier. The windows were few and dirty even in my corner room. TVs were mounted too close to the wall for an HDMI cable, so I couldn't do my usual network speed reviews, and the small middle room had poor lighting. Birds were noisy in the morning. The pool was overrun with kids diving and splashing, so not usable for adults; the hot tub was dirty, crowded like a kiddie pool, and not hot. The pool deck was muddy and got on my towel with barely a touch to the concrete. I didn't get a suite upgrade, even though reviewing suites was the only reason for the trip. At checkout I found a valet charge despite being a Globalist staying on points, so I had to go to the desk instead of using express checkout. The restaurant was just in the Market, the worst setup I've seen at other Regencies, though the omelette chef was good. AC was weaker than at a Hyatt Place or House, and the room stayed hot even overnight with the curtains closed.

We came for my daughter's competition and didn't need a car for much: restaurants were plentiful, and a grocery store was about a five-minute walk away. The staff were friendly and really helpful. The room had wood floors, a mini fridge, a safe, and a desk. Ten out of ten, we'll stay here whenever we're back in Phoenix.
