The booking made me especially unhappy. There was an optional upfront charge for cancellation insurance. I booked a local staycation only a few hours before arrival and skipped it, which meant I'd have been charged the full rate if I cancelled and left for a traditional resort, even though it was also Marriott. It left me thinking they know guests may be disappointed when they arrive. In person, this felt like basic vacation-club condos, not the four-star Scottsdale/Phoenix resort I expected from the Google listing and app. The finishes and amenities didn't feel four-star to me, and the room was bland, more like a typical three-star hotel. There was no traditional resort lobby, just basic commercial glass double doors. I drove around wondering if I was even at the hotel because I couldn't find the welcoming four-star entrance shown in my expectations. I checked the app again, and it was the same property, but the photos didn't match the experience I had. Everything on the property, including the gas fire pits, closes at 11 and doesn't open again until 8 a.m., so the amenities weren't available during those hours. There's no on-site dinner restaurant either, which I'd expect at a four-star resort. There are too many great four-star resort options in Scottsdale and Phoenix for me to accept this level of condo or apartment-style property.

We had plenty of space for the whole family and liked being able to cook dinner in the room. The atmosphere was very family friendly, and the pools stayed warm even in the cooler weather. We also enjoyed being able to walk across to the Marriott and use its pool. My family had a great stay the week after Christmas.

Jean led an awesome nature walk and was friendly and knowledgeable. The property is beautiful, clean, and well maintained. Our vacation-club unit was condo-like, very nice and clean, and the kitchen had all the utensils we needed. I love this place.

Being close to the Wildfire Club was handy, and the room worked well enough for my two-night trip. The bed was comfortable. At night, though, the AC vent blew right onto it, which made sleep uncomfortable depending on how low I set the temperature. The rest was pretty standard. No one came by during my stay to tidy up, and I would have liked daily room service or at least a quick clean. It was an okay place for a short visit, but a few small changes would make a noticeable difference.

The property itself is pleasant, but the noise and the response to it made this stay not worth the cost. We spent seven nights over New Year's week at Marriott's Canyon Villas in Phoenix using our Platinum Elite status. Noise from the unit above continued well past 11 p.m. on several nights. For the first three nights, it repeatedly woke our family and kept us up. We reported it several times to staff, including the manager, and contacted Marriott Bonvoy support. Security came, but the noise continued. Even after the guests above changed, the sound carried badly, which made us think the building's insulation and acoustics were part of the problem. On the third night, they offered to move us, but we would have had to pack four rooms in 40 minutes. That wasn't realistic with young children and groceries, so we stayed, and the noise carried on other nights. Marriott eventually offered 5,000-10,000 Bonvoy points total, roughly a tenth of one night's stay. After several nights of disrupted sleep, that felt dismissive given the length and cost of our visit. If you book, ask detailed questions about room placement, sound transfer, and quiet-hour enforcement. We won't return to Marriott Bonvoy or use its credit card. They truly don't care whether members have status or not.
