Motel 6 Phoenix, AZ - Midtown

The non-smoking room reeked of marijuana and cigarettes, and there were sketchy things going on outside. The beds were a mess: bugs, hair, blood, and other stains on the sheets and torn mattresses, no pillow or mattress covers, cigarette burns, crumbs, and even a mystery pair of pants folded under a mattress. The bathrooms were dirty and there were no towels. At check-in the front desk said, “if it’s not good enough, let me know and we will move you to another,” but explained nothing else. I signed no paperwork. It's disgusting, shouldn't be taking money from people looking for a place to rest, and I doubt it meets health code. Avoid it. Zero stars.

We washed the bedding and bought cleaners from the dollar store, so the room is better now. We ended up here on short notice after our first hotel plan fell through. It was getting late, and we still had a 23-hour drive behind us. Check-in was hassle-free, the rates were low and weekly rates are available, and service was okay. There were no signs of bed bugs. The room had a refrigerator, three bars of soap, a TV with basic channels, a closet with hangers, and a small three-drawer dresser. There's a Denny's next door, a Jack in the Box across the street, and the freeway is close. But there was no laundry on site, the ice machines were broken and may not get cleaned regularly anyway, and there was no microwave, iron, hairdryer, shampoo, conditioner, or 2-in-1. No dining table or chairs either. The bed covers, appliances, doors, sink, and walls were dirty or stained; the toilet seat and tub had stuff on them that wasn't a stain, just dirt. Paint was peeling off the doors, walls and fixtures were damaged, and someone had left deodorant on the windowsill. There was a cable box but no cord or remote. You have to get towels from housekeeping instead of the front desk. We got two towels and two washcloths for the room with two queen beds. There was a lot of activity all day and night, people yelling and walking around. It's a mix of people from all walks of life and could feel intimidating to some.

We were heading to the Grand Canyon after a flight and booked here just for the night. The first key didn't work, so the front desk gave me another key for a different room, and that one opened the door. Inside were blood stains on the sheets, no pillowcases, cigarette holes in the comforter, and huge piles of dirt on the floor. We immediately booked elsewhere and told the desk what we'd found. They said they'd processed the refund and it would be back in 3-4 days. It's been over two weeks, and there is still no refund. I've called every day for the past eight days, but nobody has picked up even once. There were SW in the parking lot and people sleeping in the stairways. Please stay somewhere else for your safety.

I've stayed here twice. The first visit was short because of work, so I didn't care too much, though I couldn't sleep because of the homeless commotion. My second stay was much better: it was quiet and the room was huge. Thanks for having me.
