Motel 6 Phoenix - Northern Avenue

The room was clean and everything worked, including the key card. Security is on site, which made me feel safer, and guests are asked to register at the front desk. I don’t have any complaints. If I could suggest one improvement, it’d be offering some breakfast beyond coffee. I checked in later in the evening, and the desk clerk was awesome: friendly, helpful, and informative. Guests kept coming into the “lobby,” but she greeted everyone and got them sorted out quickly. Being right by the 17 freeway isn’t the best location, but it suited my needs perfectly. I’ve stayed here before as well.

After a long day of work, the last thing I needed was a stressful scramble to find somewhere else to stay. On Nov 7, in the middle of my fully paid stay, the receptionist kicked me out in the evening after a room key “bounced” on the counter. I had three heavy bags in my hands. She quickly became rude, then locked and checked me out within a couple of minutes, without considering that my belongings were still in the room. When I reminded her, she had a security guard escort me to collect them like a criminal. He was quite nice. I never swore or yelled, though I became increasingly upset at the strange and severe way I was being treated. Motel 6’s toll-free customer help couldn’t assist and said anyone from hotel 6 can remove a guest without cause. The whole incident, followed by having to locate a new place, was distressing. They’ve lost a quiet, clean, paying guest. I encourage Motel 6 to check the mental stability of the receptionist at their Northern Avenue property so they don’t lose more good paying guests.

The room was comfortable enough, with good air conditioning, manageable outside noise, and excellent security. Staff were professional and easy to talk to, and I appreciated the morning calls about housekeeping. My only complaint is that the breakfast coffee runs out before the serving time ends. There also seemed to be a lot of guests staying alone in single rooms.

The remodeled rooms have a much fresher, cleaner look, and the check-in was quick and friendly. The woman at the desk really set the tone for the visit, though I wish I remembered her name. I hadn't been back in over a year, and I also noticed what seemed like a better crowd this time. There was no police activity that night or anything on the property that made me think there should be. Thanks.
