Red Roof Inn Phoenix - Midtown

The room itself was super clean, and the bed was comfortable. Kudos to the maid service. I spent four nights at the Red Roof Inn in Midtown Phoenix because I wanted a reasonably priced hotel, and the rate was fair. But the noise outside ruined a lot of the stay. Starting around 7, loud cars and motorcycles raced along the main street for about four hours, then police sirens took over. I went to bed early with a headache and still couldn't get a peaceful evening. The amenities are sparse: a decent TV, microwave, and small fridge, but no pool, continental breakfast, or fancy toiletries. There's a gated entrance and a security guard walking around the parking lot, yet I still felt unsafe. I should have checked the location more carefully. Sorry, but I can't give this place a great review.

The rooms stank and were dirty, and the area felt really sketchy. The place is fully gated, but drug addicts still get in, and people look through cars for things to steal. They put two sheets over the bed, so you can't see pee or other stains. The floors had burn marks. I'd give zero stars if I could.

I didn't stay here myself. I dropped someone off, then had to come back and get them within 30 minutes. From outside, the place gave off a “ghetto” living vibe, with people hanging around by the rooms. It looked as if some people lived there instead of visiting. One guy arrived carrying a laundry basket of his belongings. A fence with locked gates encloses the rooms, like at a secured facility. The person I dropped off checked the room before reluctantly agreeing to stay. Once they'd settled in a bit, they noticed the sheets didn't look clean. The front desk told them to come get clean ones, really? The front desk person did bring the sheets to the room, but when the guest went to make the bed, they saw a bedbug and left. Years ago, I had a bad stay at a Red Roof Inn: bad carpet, a room that smelled and looked old and dingy, a shabby bed, and a dead cockroach on the floor. That was my first and last time staying at a Red Roof Inn. Unfortunately, it seems nothing has changed. Take heed, folks. Sometimes you get what you pay for!

We had booked two rooms, but our flight was delayed, so by the time we got there it was 1am. They wouldn't let us check in until 4am. That's a terrible situation for a mother traveling with a five-year-old and a disabled uncle. I requested cancellation within 30 minutes, but they wouldn't refund us. No sympathy. I know one person can ruin it for everyone, but jezzz, this caused a massive financial hardship!
