I'm looking forward to starting this new chapter at The Moderne. It's a beautiful place, and the staff have been great. I got to tour and lease with Valerie, who's so sweet and amazing. You can tell she really cares about residents and wants them to enjoy living at the moderne.

The way residents are treated at Slate left me with ongoing health and safety concerns. Smoke from a neighbor who smoked heavily came through thin walls and vents, and smoking and vaping were happening around the building. I could hear his coughing, too. The carpets on my floor smelled of dog urine, poop, and trash juice and were never steam-cleaned. The indoor smoke was so bad I felt I needed a mask to leave the building. A spot by my car smelled like urine and had visible mold; the staff blew dust around the complex, leaving cars dirty again. The pool was poorly maintained, the trash area smelled and had ants, and some pool furniture felt unsafe. The decor was outdated. There were no real community events, and it seemed management only acted after a bad review. I heard many frustrated, good-minded residents say they felt the same way. Management also never repaired the heavy metal door, even though hot air was coming in, and didn't seem to think it mattered until spending a couple of bucks became necessary. Construction went on for months and was very loud, but I never complained about that. If you do complain, they'll say okay, but in my experience they avoid paying to fix things until they have no choice. I heard another nearby complex power-washed during construction, but Slate didn't. You had to tell them, even beg, while they were remodeling apartments. Requests about parking, broken gym vents, and gate sensors that damage cars went nowhere. Employees got preferred parking, discounts, and even free lunches at residents' expense while residents were ignored. You have to beg management to do its job. I've seen residents cry, argue, end leases voluntarily, and be wrongfully accused. The upper management doesn't seem to think it needs to train employees in guest interactions, satisfaction, or safety procedures, based on what I personally experienced. They don't return calls when you ask about anything, for any reason. I've heard water bottles were refused when residents asked, which feels especially bad in 100+ degree weather. At the place I'm at now, they hand them over with a smile and have unlimited hot drinks. The place looks like it's all about the money. Everything else feels like it's not a priority, so just pay your monthly dues. I hate complaining, and it's the last thing I want to do. Listen to residents and do your best to make them happy. We're your paycheck, and having a wonderful day is free. Clear, direct communication matters. There's more to running a place than two screens and a desk. Show and share the proper way. I moved mountains and drove thousands of miles to be here, hoping to do amazing things. I won't let people portray me as something I'm not just because they feel like it. I had a dream in my new home not long ago, but at Slate I remember having nightmares. People have the right to express themselves. Rent isn't cheap or tax-free. Honestly, I don't understand why Maricopa County or Phoenix city officials don't make a random visit. After well over a year of this, I can say Slate Scottsdale at 18220 N 68th Street, phoenix az, feels all about “Show me the money!!!” The property has recently been renamed.

I'm happy to call this my new home. I moved into a spacious 2bed2bath at Slate, and the updates look beautiful. The rain shower is great, and I like being able to lock or unlock the door and control the a/c or lights from my phone. The gym has all-new touchscreen equipment, which makes cardio more enjoyable, and there are walking trails right outside. Linda was friendly, attentive, and helpful when she showed me around. I'm really excited to be part of the community.

I lived here from 2022-2024, and when I moved out they sent me a $19 refund from my deposit. Now they've sent me to collections for $13, despite never sending a bill or contacting me by email, phone, or mail. The collection company was the first notice I got about it. Rent autopay also failed because of an error in their system. We weren't told until an eviction notice arrived. They refused to fix the system and charged us $500 in late fees for their mistake without communicating. There are around 15 Airbnbs on the property. The tenants are loud, rude, and messy, and the pool can feel like a day club one day and a Chuck E. Cheese full of screaming children the next. An exterior door was broken throughout my two years there. It still wasn't fixed after a girl was murdered in the field behind the complex. If you care about your credit and getting clear communication, this isn't the place for you.

Jessica T., the assistant property manager, was a pleasure to work with. She was friendly and informative and helped me through the tour, application, and move-in process. Thanks, Jessica. I'd recommend both her help and this place.
