Kaylee, a friendly young woman, made check-in easy. Everything else was a disaster, and if I could give zero stars I would. The floors looked worn and a little dirty when we came in, but things got much worse as we checked the room. The “clean towels” were covered in hair. The toilet seat needed replacing, the toilet rocked because it was loose, and the sink backed up when we washed our hands. The phone didn't work. My daughter found giant muddy paw prints on the sheets, as if a dog had been running over the bed, plus yellow pee stains. There was mud on the walls and bathroom tile too, presumably from the same dog. We got replacement sheets from the front desk and changed the bed ourselves. Underneath was the most disgusting mattress I've seen, stained from top to bottom. I can't imagine what the stains were, or why this hotel thinks that's acceptable. My kids' socks were filthy after they walked around on the floors. I've had trouble with Motel 6 before and felt they'd given up on being decent hotels, more like flop houses. This last experience confirmed my instincts. We'll never stay at another Motel 6.

I used to stay here with my son when we first moved to Arizona 12 years ago. We spent nearly a month there while we waited for a home rental. It was basic, but mostly clean and quiet, and affordable enough to get by. This visit was a different story. The room had cockroaches, and there was shouting outside my window all night, people banging on doors, and police activity. I also saw homeless people around the property and someone using Fentynal at a picnic table. The TV, lights, and water spigots weren't working properly either. I called the day before to confirm a two-bed room on the first floor, since that's what I needed, and was told one would be available. At check-in, they said the rooms were all occupied by permanent residents, though they eventually found one for me. It still had roaches. I live in my van and money is tight, so I understand needing an inexpensive place to rest and recharge. This used to work for me, but I don't think I'll come back.

The room at Studio 6 Deer Valley was clean and practical, and I had what I needed for a comfortable two-day stay. The front desk clerk made the biggest impression, though. I wish I could remember her name. She was friendly and warm, with a charm that made each interaction memorable. I asked her to pass along a tip, and she did. Only after I left did I realize I hadn't actually tipped her myself, and I've felt bad about that since. She deserved it for making the stay so pleasant. I'd consider coming back, partly for the chance to make that right and maybe see her again.

A few hours after checking in, several men tried to get into my room with key cards. The deadbolt kept them out. I called the front desk repeatedly, but nobody answered. About half an hour after the men left, a family tried their key card on my door too. Again, I couldn't reach the desk. Then the clerk arrived with the family, banged loudly on my door, and accused me of staying without paying. When I reminded her that she had checked me in, she blamed a system glitch and left without an apology. If I were a woman traveling alone, I would have called the police the first time. I kept the deadbolt on because I felt unsafe, and otherwise several people could have entered my room. I stayed the remaining nights only because I'd already paid, but I never felt secure. I can't recommend this place. The check-in itself had seemed smooth after the woman at the desk was absent for nearly 20 minutes. The area also had men hanging around the stairwells, which made waiting there at night feel unsafe. My room was dirty, with dark stains on the towels, burn marks on several surfaces, and a stale cigarette smell even though it was supposed to be a non-smoking room. I travel often and rarely leave negative reviews, but I would never recommend it to a solo traveler or a family.

The room was clean and reasonably priced, and the rates were flexible. The staff were friendly and really helpful. I plan to keep extending my stay. Thank you!
