Americana Inn, a Travelodge by Wyndham

We landed at this motel on a whim during a road trip to Gatlinburg and stayed one night. The service was fine and the area is fun to explore, but the room was incredibly dirty and sketchy. I wouldn’t recommend it unless your other choice is sleeping in the car. For $50 or more, this wasn’t acceptable. There was a loose screw by the bathroom sink, filthy ventilation, and surfaces and appliances that were generally unkempt. We had no TV remote or coffee pot, though they’d left an opened, half-used coffee kit. The showerhead was so low that both my husband and I had to hunch over to wash our hair. The door didn’t lock properly and wasn’t sealed, so cold air came through the cracks and you could see through them. That also raised obvious safety concerns. We worried about bugs, illness, and people hanging around. Yuck!

The doors kept jamming, and I had trouble getting in and out. The microwave in the rooms didn’t work, so I had to switch rooms. I think they’ve taken care of the bed bugs, since I didn’t see any. I’m still trying to get my $75 deposit back, even though I was told it had been taken off my card. As of 2-8-2026, it’s still missing from my account. I’ve tried calling for almost four days without a reply. That’s a lot to go through over a key. Hopefully they can get things straightened out with their employees. I’m looking into a logger to see if I can get my money back, so be careful, people. They don’t refund money.

The location was awesome and the price was cheap, but that’s about all it had going for it. Service was terrible. A sign said someone would be back at 9pm, yet people were still waiting around 9:30. The room was somewhat clean, but the repairs were badly done and many were unfinished. The air unit was sitting on 2x4s. I watched TV for an hour without a remote, fell asleep, and left as soon as I woke up. There were sketchy people in the parking lot, and an argument next door, so it didn’t feel worth staying.

The room was very clean when we arrived, and we felt comfortable staying there with young kids. It was surprisingly affordable, and the location was perfect. We could walk to almost all the attractions and restaurants we wanted to visit. There’s no breakfast or coffee, but we liked walking across to Reagons each morning. Housekeeping never came during our stay, so we needed extra towels and washcloths. We called for more pillows, but they never arrived, and the ones in the room were tiny. Staff were very unprofessional, though.
