La Quinta by Wyndham St Petersburg-Clearwater

Santiago at the front desk was awesome, very friendly and attentive to what guests needed. The location is just off the highway and shares a parking lot area with a Crab Seafood restaurant, which was very good. The pool was okay but wasn’t heated, and the lot could’ve been cleaner, though it felt safe. There’s a mall nearby. Our room was small, with two double beds, but it did the job. The continental breakfast was very basic, though I liked that everything was individually wrapped. We were on the ground floor and parked right outside, so we heard most car-lock beeps, vehicles coming and going, and people talking at all hours. If noise bothers you, ask for a higher floor. There’s an outside elevator.

The real problem came after checkout. We left behind a pillow someone in my family can’t sleep without. Halfway through Florida, we called, and a man said they had it, but I had 24 hours before they’d throw it away. I told him not to, since a friend could pick it up. She went within two hours, and he gave her a bag marked with our room number. It had new Walmart women's clothes with tags and what looked like a new blanket quilt set, but no pillow. When we called back, they said they didn’t have it, and a manager would contact me Monday to make it right. It’s been two weeks. I’m unhappy, especially since we put up with the renovations, which I have pictures of, and I’d told them the pillow was mine and sent someone quickly. I’m sure it’s been thrown away by now. The room itself wasn’t great either. On the third floor, things didn’t work, there was broken glass and missing furniture, and the TV picture wouldn’t come on, only the sound. After I complained about the appliances, they moved us down a floor. It was a little better, but still like cheap Florida landlord fixes. We had to unplug appliances to charge our phones and other things. One was a lamp, so the room stayed dark unless we switched on the bathroom light on the other side. I said we’d manage. I don’t recommend staying here.

My family was put in an unfinished room, and the place was gross. When I called, the staff member said a manager would call me back when she was in, then just hung up. I can recommend other cheap hotels instead.

The people were nice and helpful, and the room was clean. I only saw one roach, at night when I went to the bathroom. The beds were sunken, the AC ran all the time and was loud and squeaky, and water collected along the path to the rooms. A lot of rooms seemed to be used for storage, as the picture shows. There’s only one ice machine, in the main building on the second floor, so from the other buildings you have to go there for ice. This is a low-budget motel, with outside room entrances rather than inside access, and barely a continental breakfast. I’d stay if I had a super tight budget of $60 or less. Otherwise, there are places with nicer amenities.
