Hilton Garden Inn San Luis Obispo/Pismo Beach

01.14.26 - 01.15.26 My parents stayed in the Family Suite Room while clamming for a day in Pismo Beach. They also visited the San Luis Obispo Courthouse with fellow church members about penalties for catching undermeasured clams back in October. The assessed fine was reduced from $4,800 to $250 for one person, and two others each got 6 hr of community service. Mom’s citation was dismissed, so she had no penalty, and Dad never received a citation. The suite was small compared with South Lake Tahoe Marriott Timber Lodge Suites, and the shower pressure was so low that rinsing off soap and shampoo took impossibly long. The exterior is well maintained and the rooms look recently renovated, but for the price paid, we wouldn’t stay here again. We’d rather book a whole condo through AirBnB/Vrbo. *Pismo Clams = 4.5" wide minimum and avg 16oz/1lb x 10/person/day with CA fishing license.

It’s a convenient place at the right price, so I stay here every time I’m in Pismo, probably 4-5 times a year. The rooms are decent and a little worn, but perfectly fine, not amazing. I usually walk 1.3 miles down to the Pismo pier each morning and grab coffee at Starbucks on the way. I’m not a fan of the breakfast. There are much better options just down the street at Huckleberry’s.

I’m updating my review after giving the hotel a second chance, and I’m glad I did. The rooms with patios are very nice, so it’s worth paying extra for one. On the cliff side of the building, though, there’s a 20-30 foot concrete retaining wall just 5-6 feet from the window. It feels like a failed walk-out basement.

The beds were clean and comfortable, and the coffee machines already had creamer ready. Breakfast was top notch, and the workers, especially Daniel, were so friendly, attentive, and amazing.
