The hotel's in a good spot, with reasonable access to anything cool, but the room layouts were unusual and I didn't like them. The shower head sits too low, so anyone remotely tall will have trouble. Room service was okay, though it was odd that they made my bed on the first day and not the second. I don't really mind, but the inconsistency stood out. The valet and its app were a pain. You pull into the garage and they park for you, but it cost $40 a night, $15 more than nearby self-parking garages. I expected the valet to be helpful, but it mostly wasted my time and was a big inconvenience. Some attendants were nice, others less so, and the whole operation seemed unprofessional. We called 30 minutes ahead to get something from the car, but they still hadn't brought it up, so we walked to the garage ourselves. Later we called about 20 minutes before we needed to leave, but the car wasn't there when we went down. Once we showed up in person, the guy quickly fetched it, luckily from a spot near the door. It felt like the app and phone calls did nothing.

The front desk staff were lovely, and the room was very clean, but that's where the good parts ended. Construction directly above me sounded like someone might come through the ceiling. I called the desk and was told it would be addressed. It stopped while I was out for the evening, then the hammering and drilling started again at 8 the next morning. There was no bathroom garbage can, and the fire alarm above the bed flashed a bright white light all night. I also had to slam the door to get it to lock. Closing it quietly didn't make the lock catch. Getting in and out with a car was a nightmare. I waited about 30 minutes in a line of traffic around the block to enter the garage. I didn't want valet, but was told self-parking wasn't available. Once they'd parked my Toyota, its app alerted me that the car had been left unlocked, so I had to lock it remotely. At checkout the next day, the whole hotel seemed to be trying to get their cars at once. I requested mine through the valet app, but still had to go down and wait 40 minutes in a line. Everyone was squeezed into a small hallway with bags and luggage carts. The person ahead of me got the wrong car, and a furious woman came down from the elevator after getting no response to her app request from two hours earlier. When my car finally arrived, the valet handed me the keys in the lobby without a word and walked off. I then had to find the car myself, only to discover another car blocking it in. I went back inside to ask them to move it. Around two hours after I had left, I got an app notification saying my car was ready for pickup. The location is great for the arena, and there are many better hotels downtown within walking distance. I'm not sure this place is worth the hassle.

We've now stayed here three times because our son lives in Pittsburgh, and we're back at least once a month. I can't praise the hotel enough. The renovations are wonderful, and they haven't disturbed me. Ally is fantastic about making sure guests are happy and following up on everything. DeVaughn welcomes us warmly and asks for feedback, and Curtis makes us feel like we've come home. We're introducing friends to Pittsburgh this spring and will definitely stay at the Downtown Pittsburgh Doubletree Hilton. We loved our first two stays and plan to come again this month. It's clean, safe, quiet, and within walking distance of everything. The restaurant on the first floor serves great breakfasts. Above all, the staff take such good care of us. They're professional, pleasant, and extremely helpful. The Front Area Manager, Ally, is wonderful.

I had a great time at the convention. The bed was comfortable, the TVs had good quality and channels, and I loved the view from our room. There was some water damage on the ceiling, and the bathroom didn't feel very clean. The tub floor looked a bit dirty, so I chose to shower instead. I also found some bathrooms around the hotel with clogged toilets and had to use others, though I know that can happen during conventions. They're working on repairs, so I understand.

The kids enjoyed the pool, and checkout went smoothly. The cookies are always a hit, and the hotel is close to Pamela's, which has the best breakfast in Pittsburgh. Staff were kind and courteous, and check-in was easy. The building is undergoing a lot of rehab, but our floor wasn't affected. We got off on the wrong floor once and saw plenty of work going on there. This worked well as a family stop-over, though I don't like paying extra for valet parking. It took us going around the block once or twice before figuring out which nearby garage would work, US Steel Tower. Our truck barely cleared the 6-foot height limit, but we got through. In the room, the toilet ran all night even after I tried to close the flapper, and the ottoman was torn. The rest of the furniture was fine. Water was dripping from the pool domes into the water. I told the kids it was condensation, though I'm not sure that was accurate.
