Placemakr Downtown Pittsburgh at The Pennsylvanian

My room was roomy and well appointed, with a comfortable bed, full kitchen, and in-room laundry. The valet staff were friendly and helpful, though bring cash for a tip. The prepaid parking was hard to find, but once you locate the underground garage entrance, it's convenient. From Grant Street, turn right; from eastbound Liberty, take MLK Jr. East Busway, then turn into the down-ramp between the upper parking level of The Pennsylvanian building. Use the same code for the building and garage. The location is excellent for the convention center: cross Liberty, enter Liberty Center, take the escalator inside the Westin, then use the sky bridge. I had plumbing trouble with the bathroom sink, shower, and toilet. They said they'd send maintenance, but nobody came, so I dealt with it for my two-day stay. I'd stay here again.

The front desk guy was patient and helpful, and the room was clean in a very nice building. We had plenty of space for a good price thanks to a holiday promotion. It's a central spot for exploring Pittsburgh, and despite some overnight noise, the stay was great. There are two parking options: an above-ground lot that's less secure but half the overnight price, and a below-ground garage with valet for $40 overnight. I'd recommend running the dishes through the dishwasher before using them. Looking forward to coming back.

We were grateful that management was VERY FLEXIBLE with reservations, since we had to change our dates more than once. The central location worked well, the property allowed pets, and our two cats could stay with us while our downtown condo in another location was being renovated. The facility met our needs overall, and staff were generally friendly and helpful. Housekeeping was the main problem. Our unit was meant to be serviced weekly, but was cleaned only once or twice over several weeks. We kept telling the front desk it needed cleaning. At one point, a staff member was visibly and audibly annoyed when we raised it again, and said the cleaning staff weren't Placemakr employees. I'm thankful we could stay at the Pennsylvanian and would seriously consider returning if needed. I strongly encourage Placemakr to quickly provide reliable, capable cleaning services there.

We spent our entire stay without heat during a Pittsburgh winter, on a night when it was 20 degrees. Nobody mentioned at check-in or later that the whole building had no heat. We only found out when we asked the front desk about the thermostat. They said they could send a space heater, but then couldn't find one. We had also asked for a pack n play at check-in. The desk attendant left without making sure it arrived, and it took one trip downstairs and two more calls to get it delivered three hours later. We requested a refund through our credit card, waited three weeks for a response, and got just $36 back. I've had better service at a Red Roof Inn. Really awful experience, absolutely terrible hotel. Stay far away!
