The room had a working TV, and the king bed was a pretty good deal. It was also nice to have a roof over my head, but I wouldn’t recommend the place or stay again. There were no fridge or microwave, which I hadn’t checked before booking, and we had no soap at all. The towels had a lot of brown stains, and the room smelled very strongly of bleach. When we tried the heat, the unit sizzled and smelled like something was burning, so we shut it off. On the good side, the staff were friendly and someone was always at the lobby desk to help. The location was convenient, close to the mall and plenty of places to eat. No bedbugs, which was great. Thanks, Red Roof PLUS+.

I came back with my 74-year-old mother after an earlier so-so stay, and it turned into a rough visit. We’d driven up from SC to see my daughter, who is having a heart and lung transplant at UPMC Presbyterian. Outside our room the marijuana smell was overwhelming, and a neighbor’s charcoal grill was going while he talked loudly on speakerphone. We could hear both sides of the call inside. Carpet renovation had left stacks of carpet on the sidewalk, a trip hazard that scared my mother, who uses a cane. Inside, we stepped in some sticky glue-like stuff on the floor and ruined our socks. The neighbor’s noise went on for hours, and large trucks backing in and parking, plus the AC cutting out until I reset it, made sleep impossible. We’d booked two nights, but I checked out around 9am on the first day. They said there’d be no refund because night two was already paid for. I contacted corporate; they tried to reach the site without an answer and are supposed to call me with a resolution. On the first stay, the rooms were OK and clean, maybe being remodeled. It’s not the best neighborhood, but it was convenient for what we needed.

I had to book four nights at the last minute near UPMC for a family medical emergency, without seeing the place first. At $80 a night, I should’ve guessed it was too good to be true. Stains covered the carpet, sheets, and comforters, and the floor was disgusting. I bought sheets and a wet mop at Target, but even after mopping five times it was still dirty, so we gave up and went elsewhere. The hotel also seemed to be used as temporary housing by homeless and vagrant people. I wouldn’t have felt safe leaving a loved one there alone. I wouldn’t stay even if I were paid.

The rooms are roomy, the beds are comfortable, and the neighborhood feels safe. Robinson Town Mall is only a few minutes away by car. I’ve come back a few times over the past couple of decades, and for the money it’s hard to beat, even if some paint would help. I was a Hilton Gold member for years, so I know this doesn’t have the same luxury amenities, and it doesn’t claim to. Just be aware there’s no elevator to the upper floors, though they do have ground-floor rooms.

The woman who checked us in was easily the best part, she was VERY friendly. But the room was VERY dated. I don’t understand the RedRoof + label, since there was nothing plus about the place.
