Residence Inn by Marriott Pittsburgh North Shore

We arrived to find the bathroom floor soaked, and the carpet was fraying with shoddy repairs. I threw down a towel and dealt with the water because I had bags in my hands and a toddler who needed the bathroom. My main concern was the exposed nail that hurt my child’s foot. She cried, and afterward she was afraid to walk around the room. When I raised it and showed photos, they downplayed the injury and said someone would call or email, but no one did. I had to call Shawn, the front desk manager, the next day. He apparently thought refunded parking and a small number of Bonvoy points would make up for it. When I mentioned the wet bathroom, he asked whether I’d called maintenance instead of apologizing and taking responsibility. This was a dangerous room and poor handling by management. I expected a decent room, not one with wet floors and bad carpet repairs. I don’t feel like an important enough guest for them to fairly compensate me for the trouble or for comforting my injured child. I hope they know this will go further. I was told the general manager would call tomorrow. We’ll see. The location is nice and the price isn’t too high, but avoid this hotel.

We were in Pittsburgh for a funeral and just needed somewhere comfortable for the family to recharge. The rooms were extremely dated, poorly maintained, and not clean. All the mattresses needed replacing. This wasn’t what I expect from a Marriott.

We’re staying here long term right now. My partner thought the sheets hadn’t been changed between November and January. I tested it by taking all the bedding off before we went home for a week and putting it across the room, with a coffee spill on one side of the sheets as a marker. Room service hadn’t come in for at least a couple of weeks. When we returned, I first thought the bed had been made with clean sheets. Then I lifted them and saw the coffee stain on the other side of the bed, on both the sheets and mattress protector. They’d picked the dirty sheets up off the floor and flipped them over, apparently thinking I wouldn’t notice. I asked the front desk for clean sheets so I could change them myself. They said, “you’ve been here for a long time so we trust you we’ll run them up when we can. Usually we make people wait an extra day.” I find that disgusting. I wouldn’t stay here. Who knows whether the sheets had been changed before we first checked in. Ick!

The staff were nice, but the two-bedroom suite needs major repairs to the walls, lights, and faucets. The old TV lost 40-50% of its channels until the morning we left, when none worked. The pool was unavailable and looked like it had been that way for a while. The gym had weights but no bench. Burnt marijuana smell filled the gated parking lot and our floor.
