Holiday Inn Plainview-Long Island by IHG

The people here made this stay. Front desk staff were knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive, and I felt comfortable every time I came through the lobby. Wayne was running the bar alone one night, with only one cook in the back, and was feeding the whole hotel. He handled it incredibly well. John at breakfast was professional, friendly, and attentive, and even came back that evening to help Wayne. Their teamwork deserves recognition. I’d come back just to see them again, for breakfast or dinner. I stayed here during a snowstorm because of the location. The hotel could use room renovations, and the rooms have no windows to the outside. The walls are thin, so I heard people in the hall, though not my neighbors. The plumbing and heat made some noise when they started, and the old, very soft beds creaked when I moved. Still, the noise didn’t keep me up, I slept fine, and the room worked for a quick two-day stay. I had a great time and would definitely return and recommend it.

The room wasn’t very clean, and it smelled strongly of marijuana. The heating and air unit made a huge bang whenever it switched on or off, startling me out of a sound sleep. The elevator wasn’t working, but the staff helped by carrying all our luggage upstairs.

I’m writing about my stay at Holiday Inn Plainview Long Island on 01/23/2026. Around 11:30 p.m., my 10-year-old son woke me because a strong marijuana smell had filled our room and the hallway. He felt lightheaded and nauseous, then vomited in the trash can for about 30 minutes while sitting on the toilet. Once he was settled, I went to the front desk to report the odor and ask for another room, since ours now smelled of marijuana and vomit. The employee dismissed me and wouldn’t come check the smell or move us. When I asked why, she said she “did not have to deal with my harassment,” went into the office, and shut the door. I called IHG customer support. They tried to reach the hotel several times before the employee came out to answer. She put them on hold and went back into the office, leaving the desk unattended. She called the police, who came and asked what was happening. I explained, and the officer and I agreed there was little, if anything, the police could do because it was a civil matter between a business and a customer. The officer advised me to deal directly with customer service, which I agreed to do. I spoke to customer service several times, but they kept referring me back to the hotel. The hotel finally called me the next morning, and the response was infuriating. The person I spoke with cared only that I had brought the trash can containing vomit to the desk. It also had other trash in it, so dumping it in the toilet wasn’t an option, and I wasn’t going to leave it in the room. I thought bringing it to staff was the best solution. I can’t believe this meets your brand’s standards. The incident has badly damaged my view of the company. I have no desire to spend money at any of your properties again, and I’ll advise my company to remove IHG properties from our Concur travel site. I’ll also tell anyone who mentions having to stay in a hotel what happened.

It’s a very clean place in a good spot just off the highway, and I liked that quiet time runs from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. The two things that need work are the beds and plumbing. The bed frames made noise whenever I moved, even slightly, and I could hear anyone nearby flush a toilet or turn on a shower. The walls may have poor insulation or something.
