Mound View Inn

We stopped here when we realized we couldn’t keep driving, so we hadn’t booked ahead and ended up paying quite a lot. The room was clean and the bed was soft. Breakfast was good, with waffles or pancakes you make yourself. We couldn’t get the pancake machine going, but the attendant was really helpful, fixed it, and even made some pancakes and brought them over.

The lobby looked fairly modern, and the beds felt clean. The bathrooms were pretty lackluster, though, and the hall outside the rooms smelled like somebody’s ferret house. That smell didn’t get into our room.

My rear-facing room had a big window that let in lots of light and fresh air. The furniture was older but in good shape, and the showerhead seemed new and worked perfectly. The Inn looks like it’s being refurbished. My room was very clean, even in the floor corners and behind the headboard, which matters to me. The door lets hallway noise into the room and room noise out, though. Still a good value.

The staff were great, but the rooms were dingy and smelled strongly of mold and mildew. I noticed it right as I came through the entrance, and it was still there when I woke up the next morning. At over $120 a night, I expected a cleaner atmosphere. I’m allergic to dust and mold, not pets, and had to take Benadryl to sleep because of the allergies.
