American Inn & Suites

The microwave and mini fridge are handy, the room has a little space, and the Indian guy at the front desk is nice. I kept waiting for a bug to show up because I expected the place to be awful, but I never saw one. The room is only barely maintained and could be cleaner. The walls and floors need scrubbing, though I travel with my own cleaning supplies and like to clean wherever I stay. Walls are thin, a woman next door keeps yelling, and there are lots of people around, so it doesn't feel especially safe. It's okay, but I wouldn't come back unless I had to.

When my son and I came back after being out of town for three days, all our things were still there. I had worried they'd be stolen because of some reviews I'd read, and I was so relieved, though I was annoyed with myself for worrying so much. I first gave this place three stars, but I'm updating that to four. It still needs some improvements, so I can't give it five. We enjoyed our stay, even if the place might look a little scary to some people. We came from Georgia, and we'd stay here again on another visit. Thanks for giving us a nice, quiet, clean stay. I'd recommend it to anyone who knows where it is, lol.

American Inn works well enough for a stay longer than a week, and weekly rates are discounted. A kitchenette with two queen beds was $475 a week. Many guests live there permanently, and the New Life church across the street has a food bank that opens every Friday around 3pm. The office staff are competent and do their best to help. There are a few restaurants, Dollar Tree, and a couple thrift stores nearby, though the parking lot is tight, so don't bring an RV. The residents may look tough, but nobody seemed to bother anyone who minded their own business, which is good advice anywhere. The place is rough around the edges. Appliances and beds are old, and we killed about 10 cockroaches a day in the kitchenettes. It's the only hotel I've visited that charges 50 cents for ice, there's no cable TV, and our room phone didn't work. Noise outside was high day and night, with lots of people hanging around. Nightly rates are around the same as Motel 6, about $70-$85. If you can put up with a few roaches, it's not too bad. The photos were taken when we checked out, and the room was decently clean when we arrived.

There are lots of people living in these units. I came on vacation with my children expecting a family experience, but got the opposite. Roaches greeted us at the door, there was dirty tissue in the bed, and under it we found lip gloss and other random things. The room was filthy. When I went out to ask for a refund, a drug dealer approached me and offered to sell drugs. Then I was told I'd have to wait until 11am the next day for the refund. That felt immoral.
