I’m extremely frustrated by our stay at LIFE IN PARADICE, Unit El Cortez 116 in Mustang Beach, Texas. We expected a peaceful visit, but animals between the first and second levels made noise all night. My grandchildren, my husband, and I couldn’t sleep. The owner apparently knew about the problem and didn’t tell us before we rented. Traps at the front and back of the property make it seem like this was already known. If we’d been told, we probably wouldn’t have booked. I sent the condo manager a recording of the noise from the ceiling in the first-floor bedroom and asked for the problem to be fixed. I have three children here, and I’m worried the animals could be rats or raccoons. There were four raccoons, and the trap outside wasn’t going to solve it. On Saturday, after another sleepless night, I called the manager to ask if we could check out an hour late. The raccoons were active at night and stopped around 7 am, so we’d only slept for two hours and had to rush to leave. They said no. They don’t seem to care that this could involve serious disease. New renters arrived today without knowing what’s going on there. I said them.

We loved this vacation spot and plan to return. The host was kind and helpful, the condo felt just like home, and the pool was in a great location.
A great way to wrap up the summer. There was lots to do, the location was great, and the pools were incredible. I even ran into an old friend I hadn’t seen in more than 13 years. Had a great time.
The view is beautiful and the pool area is well cared for, but that’s about all I can say in favor of El Cortez Condominiums. The stay was disappointing and even felt unsafe. On arrival, we could barely get the front door open because it was poorly maintained. There was no cleaning service during our stay, bugs were all over the unit, and the tap water looked cloudy. The cleanliness didn’t inspire confidence. The most alarming problem was a large bur in the couch. My dog tried to bite it and cut her lip. Later, my father stepped on another bur in the bedroom and hurt his foot. These shouldn’t have been left in a unit that was meant to be ready for guests. The problems suggest a serious lack of upkeep and basic safety measures. I looked into older reviews and found one from three years ago mentioning bed bugs and roaches, which apparently still haven’t been dealt with over time. It’s disappointing, especially since the website advertises clean, updated units, which hasn’t been my experience. If management put even half as much effort into the units as they do into the exterior and pool, this place could be great. As things are, I can’t recommend it to anyone looking for a safe, clean, honest rental.
The condo was already hot when we checked in last night, and today, after we came back from the beach, neither bathroom had water pressure. Then the AC stopped working too. It’s 77 degrees in here now, and with four adults and two kids, we can’t shower or stay in the condo because of the heat. My wife called, and the condo office said maintenance would arrive in 25 minutes. It’s been 2 1/2 hours and nobody has come. We called again, but now they aren’t answering. My wife messaged the host as well and got no response. We’re very disappointed, especially after what we paid for this weekend.
