The price wasn’t terrible, but I wouldn’t stay again unless I couldn’t find another pet-friendly option. The front desk staff were friendly and welcoming, and they did their best to accommodate our early check-in request. The room was very humid and had a heavy, moldy smell. There was a dead cockroach under the coffee table, spots on the sofa cover that looked like it hadn’t been washed, and marks all over the unwiped mirror. The place felt dirty, as if someone had painted over it to make it seem nicer. The beds were uncomfortable and sat on metal spring frames that squeaked whenever we moved. The toilet made an awful screech when flushed and again as it refilled. The small pet area out back wasn’t well maintained and had poop everywhere. The breakfast was decent, a typical continental self-serve spread, but the pool towels were so small they couldn’t wrap around me, and I’m a woman’s medium. There was no fitness facility, despite the listing saying there was. The noise curfew wasn’t enforced. Neighbors outside our room kept us awake until 1 am drinking. The listing said the rooms were soundproof, but I could hear both sets of neighbors talking and their smoke detector beeping for a low battery. We also had an upstairs neighbor who sounded like an elephant about to come through the ceiling whenever they walked around, which was constantly.
The golf cart rentals were really affordable for a full 24 hours and made getting around Port A easy and fun. The location was perfect, close to beach access, and the parking felt safe. The room was cold, which I loved after a day in the heat and beach humidity. It and the bedding smelled clean, with no moldy or musty water odor, and the covers were comfortable. The small bathtub shower was clean and manageable. We did see one or two dead water roaches by the entrance on some days, but nothing invasive or alarming. That seems pretty common in beach towns this close to the water. We could get extra towels whenever we needed them, and housekeeping made the beds once during our three-night stay. Breakfast was simple: Texas-shaped waffles, basic eggs, cereal, oatmeal, and coffee. There were no sausages or other breakfast meats, but it was enough for a quick bite before heading out. The coffee tasted good but went cold pretty quickly. I’d stay again for the affordable price, safe parking, and location. You can tell they’re actively working to improve the property and care about guests’ experience. Just don’t expect a luxury resort or fancy beachfront hotel. It’s a simple, budget-friendly place to sleep, shower, and head back to the beach.
The room was roomy and spotless, and breakfast was included. Staff kept it clean and stocked the whole time, and everyone we dealt with was friendly and helpful. I travel often and have stayed in pricey hotels, but this place offered the same kind of benefits for a much better price. We didn’t use the pool, though it looked nice, and there were BBQ grills and picnic tables available. The beach was an easy drive away, and you can get an annual parking pass for $12 at a nearby gas station or store. There’s a Dollar Store next door with decent prices, plus lots of good local restaurants, though most are closed Mondays. We also enjoyed live music at local bars. Having a comfortable, safe place to stay made Port A a great trip for us. I’d come back.
We ended up here at the last minute after flooding forced us out of our campsite at Mustang Island State Park. The Plantation turned out to be a lovely place to spend two nights, and it was a real rescue for us. The staff were kind and helpful, breakfast was good, and the pool was clean and well cared for. A great couple of days for a good price.
The lobby smelled good and had pretty colors, so first impressions were nice. Then we got to the room and found a place falling apart. The toilet looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in months, the bedding was stained, and the sheets were so worn they wouldn’t stay on the bed. There was mold, dog hair, dirty walls, a rusty tub, and mold on the shower liner. Furniture was coming apart and wedged against a wall to hold it together. We booked a deluxe queen that was supposed to have a toaster oven, but there wasn’t one. Getting towels meant bringing the dirty ones to the lobby. Breakfast was awful and wasn’t restocked, and the waffle batter was clear jelly. The laundry setup was confusing too: staff said to use only the left side, at $2 to wash and $2 to dry, but there was no sign saying the right side was broken. Hot tip, the dryer worked without adding money. Construction debris was scattered across the parking lot, and the same trash and dirty towels sat around the pool for two days. I must not have filtered the reviews properly, because I’d only seen good things. The Friday night rate was almost triple Thursday’s. Stay away from this roach inn. Amelia's down the street is a hell hole, and this place makes it look like a five-star resort.
