Our main issue with Port A Escapes was how they handled management and check-in. We were almost two hours late getting in because we kept being told the property was having its final quality inspection. Nobody could give us a clear arrival time, and once they finally let us in, the first access code didn’t work. After we entered, we found problems that should have been caught in that inspection: a dirty dishwasher with no power that needed a GFCI reset, patio furniture with exposed rusty hardware, worn-out lounge chairs, roofing nails scattered around the property, including upright nails in the deck boards, a TV remote that didn’t work, a sparking outlet, a patio door that wouldn’t stay shut without the deadbolt, and water coming in when it rained. We documented and reported the issues during our stay. They said maintenance would come, but meaningful follow-up didn’t happen until near the end. The property did have positives, but this review is about Port A Escapes. The poor communication, delayed check-in, and lack of timely response made us wonder what their extensive inspection was actually checking. Based on this experience, I’d think carefully before booking with them.

Before moving to the area, I booked a visit through Port A Escapes. They were friendly and helpful, and worked hard to find us the right dog-friendly property. I was very pleased with their service and highly recommend them to visitors. Their rates are reasonable, and they treat you well.

I’d give zero stars if I could. I planned a family birthday trip to Port Aransas through Port A Escapes for 5/22/5/25/2026. The National Weather Service issued a flood watch for those dates. I’m a below-the-knee amputee and have limited mobility, so I asked for a refund or to reschedule. The host manager refused, even with clear evidence of the warning, and tried to mislead me. VRBO, the third-party booking agency, advocated for us and offered a partial refund. This felt like unethical, shady business practice, and I wouldn’t recommend them.

Traveler beware, they’re unresponsive. We asked for the WiFi details in the pool area, and they didn’t reply until checkout day, two days later. If you stay there, check your belongings carefully before leaving, because anything you leave behind will never be returned. They don’t respond to guests’ needs or manage expectations well. It feels like a transactional company focused on your money instead of the guest experience.

For a few years now, I’ve rented the little bungalows in Spanish Village through Port A Escapes. I’ve always enjoyed staying there, and I especially appreciate the customer service they give renters.
