We left at 1:30 in the morning after finding five bed bugs across the two beds. At 1 a.m., I woke my husband by screaming when I felt one crawling on me. The room smelled, and the toilet barely flushed. We’d been staying there last weekend while visiting Put in Bay. The manager didn’t want to refund us and said they’d never had complaints before, which is hard to believe. He eventually gave us part of our money back, which was better than nothing, but the customer service was still awful. Such a disgusting place.

We arrived around 1 a.m. and were out before 2, after being bitten and finding bed bug shells on the box spring. The owner wouldn’t admit there were bed bugs, even after we showed him, and said every hotel has them. He raised his voice and was nasty when we tried to reason with him. The mattresses were dirty, and the room didn’t look clean, even though all we needed was somewhere decent to rest and shower for the night. We hadn’t expected amenities. We found an acceptable place a few miles up the street, but moving in the middle of the night cost us more. Online bookings aren’t refundable, apparently. Hopefully Amex can help. Avoid this place, it isn’t worth trying to save a few dollars.

We stayed only three or four hours before leaving at 2 a.m. My legs had a lot of red marks, and I think they may have been bed bug bites. The air conditioner was broken during our mid-July stay. The office offered to bring us a fan. We did receive a refund after leaving.

We were in town for a friend’s wedding, and the people we were staying with chose this place because of the price. We had a backup plan, including a Travelodge down the street for about $40 more, which might be a better choice if you have kids. This is a tiny, family-run two-star hotel, and you get what you pay for. If you’re a germaphobe, don’t stay here. For a cheap place to sleep, it’s manageable, and the customer service was outstanding. There were mayflies everywhere because it’s so close to the lake, but there weren’t bed bugs. The room key card didn’t work with our lock, and since we didn’t want to move away from our friends, we just got someone from the front desk whenever we needed to get in. We kept as much as possible locked in the car. Staff walking the parking lots at all hours felt reassuring and made it easy to find someone to let us in. Everything is old, and some sinks and toilets are broken, but it was something we could deal with for a night or two. We didn’t spend much time in the room. Breakfast was old donuts and bad coffee, though they don’t advertise breakfast, so it wasn’t a big deal. We drove about two minutes for fast food, while our friends walked across the street to the grocery store. The staff opened the pool area at 10 for us even though it doesn’t normally open until 3. We ate at the picnic tables there. They also cleaned the small pool when we said we wanted to use it, which was considerate. It was kind of like camping, but with a mattress and toilet. Just a quick place to stay, and the staff tries.

We paid $79 and they won’t refund it, so I’m going through the bank. I have pictures to prove what I’m describing. There are bugs all over the room, including bed bugs and mayflies, plus mold. Some windows are boarded up, the pool has no water, and the customer service is bad. The parking lot lights don’t come on, the promised Wi-Fi doesn’t work, and two rooms are wide open so anyone can walk right in. The room is filthy, the fridge barely works, the toilet hardly flushes, and dirt comes out of the shower along with dirty water. The bathroom door won’t shut, there are strange noises, and the AC won’t stay on. It’s very bad, scary, and creepy. Do not stay here.
