Commodore Perry Inn and Suites

The room had a musty smell when we arrived, and there was a stain on the ironing board in the closet area. The sink was outside the bathroom and had only facial soap, no hand soap. The toilet wouldn’t flush properly and clogged whenever anyone did more than pee, so we had to keep a plunger in the room all night. Staff were accommodating, but they were rude to my husband when he asked for directions and the plunger. It wasn’t a pleasant stay.

The pool is open to the public and draws all kinds of people. We’d look out the window and see people passed out on the ground and couches. With the pool and bar as a big party spot, it didn’t seem suitable for kids. The room itself was filthy, too. I had to buy Clorox wipes and clean the whole thing. Walking barefoot on the carpet left my feet black and sticky. Outlet covers were broken, carpet tiles were lifting, and one outlet worked only now and then. I couldn’t wait to get out of this dump.

The location is great, close to downtown, the beach, and the Jet Express, and the staff were very friendly. We didn’t use the pool, bar, or restaurant, though they looked nice. The rooms were a different story for what we paid. We spent $500 for two nights and got an outdated room with a musty smell that might have been clean, but it was hard to tell. We were on the first floor, where the walls were paper thin. We heard everything from neighboring rooms and the hallway, which connects the pool and bar to the public restaurant. People went back and forth all night, and we felt unsafe. The marketing person did an amazing job on the website, making it look worth the price. I should’ve read the reviews first. Luckily, we didn’t spend much time in the room.

The pool was great, but kids kept jumping in and splashing people. We watched several groups leave because of it. I called the front desk, and they said handling it was the bartender’s job. Nothing changed after I called. Some parents were too busy getting drunk to watch their kids, as if the pool were a babysitter. In the evening, all you hear is kids running around the halls like it’s a playhouse. Good luck getting any quiet.
