The Scoot Inn

Our confirmed booking, made two months ahead, was canceled when we arrived. Expedia and the property blamed a “late check-in,” even though we got there before midnight. While looking into it, the owner kept saying we’d arrived late and that he had it on video. When I asked him to show proof, he changed his account and admitted check-in closed at 11:00 PM. I arrived at 11:25 PM, but the front desk and office were closed. Two men outside drinking beer pointed me to a doorbell. After waiting several minutes, I knocked on the concierge’s door. He barely spoke English and spent nearly 20 minutes trying to get hold of the manager. After the long drive and such a chaotic arrival, I ended up sleeping in my Corvette. There weren’t any rooms available within 120 miles during the Daytona 500. When the manager finally opened his room, I was relieved I wasn’t staying there. The odors and mess were absolutely terrible. The property and Expedia both failed badly. The booking was mishandled, communication was poor, and misleading claims ruined my trip. I’ll never use The Scoot Inn or Expedia again.

The room was awful, with roaches and stained towels and a stained shower curtain. Wish I’d checked the reviews first. They’re all true. Don’t stay here unless you have no other choice.

For $75, it was good. The bed was big, and there was a microwave and a TV. The room was hot and stuffy, though, and the chair outside our room was broken. There were bugs too. This could be a five-star place if they fixed things up and got an exterminator. The couple were very nice and straightforward. There are good DoorDash options around the area, and it was easy for DoorDashers to find.

I called for a last-minute room because my brother had a medical emergency and I needed to be there for the next couple of days. They gave me a room, and I used the last of my funds because of the emergency. I packed my things and drove for over three hours, then got a call from whoever runs the front desk saying there was no longer any availability and my card would be refunded. After I pushed him several times, he said the AC had just gone out. I told him I’d stay in a room without AC, but he talked over me, got emotional, and said he’d ask maintenance and call back to see if I could stay. I waited over 20 minutes with no call, so I called him. A woman answered, yelled at me, and said she’d already refunded the money. The refund takes 3-4 days to arrive. Now I can’t wait to sleep in my car for the next couple of days while my brother’s life is on the line!
