Hampton Inn Portage

We stopped here during a road trip. It was easy to find and convenient for travel, though there weren't many amenities close by. The property was well maintained while some upgrades and repairs were underway, pardon our dust. The helpful, friendly staff let us leave our car in the lot for a few nights. Recommend!

The renovation was recent and very nicely done. We travel often for work and have seen many Reno’s, so we know a good one when we see it. Leslie checked us in and was pleasant, helpful, and professional. We'd give her 5 stars too. Wonderful hotel and staff!

We stayed for two nights and it was fine, but felt a bit expensive for what we got. I've stayed in nicer Hampton Inn's in nicer areas for less. Our room smelled like stale cigarette smoke. If we'd spent more time in the room, we probably would have asked to move.

We take the South shore commuter train at at dune Park into Chicago, and this hotel is only a short 15 minute trip from that station. We've stayed here multiple times and always enjoy ourselves. The manager let us check in early without a fee, which we really appreciated, and the beds have always been comfortable. We've never had a dirty room, and the staff are always courteous. Under new management, the whole hotel is being redone and feels fresh and new. The breakfast is a typical Hilton breakfast, the same stuff you get at every Hilton, and the breakfast area is always clean. I don't understand all the bad reviews. We like the $50 incidental fee for the whole stay. In Chicago, incidental fees are $100 a night, plus maybe three or $400 a night during peak season for your stay. The location is great, with a Denny's within walking distance, and a Bass pro maybe 5 minutes away, plus multiple restaurants a short drive away. This is a great hotel with great management. If I could give it 10 Stars I would.
