We came to Portales for my college graduation from ENMU and got two rooms, both in really good condition. The hotel is very close to the university, which made the location incredibly convenient. Breakfast was one of the best I've had at a HIE, with plenty of variety and enough for everyone. The staff all deserve recognition, from the young woman who checked us in to the gentleman who checked us out, plus the breakfast servers and cooks. I wish I'd gotten their names. The pool area was clean, the hot tub was relaxing, and we enjoyed both. The main thing we missed was in-room coffee. My mother likes to have her morning cup in her pajamas, and didn't want to head downstairs for it. The ice machine on the third floor was out, which meant a trip down to the first floor. There was a small line, but nothing drastic. The tub floors get incredibly slippery when wet. My husband recently had knee surgery and still isn't fully steady. I have perfectly good legs, and I nearly fell, having to brace myself through most of the shower. I warned him, and he decided not to shower because he was worried he'd slip. Even my seven-year-old almost wiped out. Maybe floor mats aren't ideal, but guests should have the option in their rooms. If I'd known it was this bad, I'd have tried to book a handicap room. Bring a mat, especially if you have young kids or mobility issues. I'd still stay again, 100%. The good outweighed the rest. Next time we'll bring a few small things from home and make our own arrangements.

That bed was probably the most comfortable I've had in a hotel for a while, and the staff were warm and friendly. We came for business with a large group. A train goes by across the street a couple of times a day, but otherwise it was quiet, even with other big groups staying there. They put out cookies in the evening, and breakfast had plenty of good options: Special K with strawberries, Raisin Bran, Cheerios, yogurt, cheese omelets, veggie egg whites, pancakes, oatmeal with toppings, juice, tea, and coffee. The coffee wasn't that great, but it did the job. Clean, comfortable stay, and one I'd recommend in Portales.

The indoor pool was why I chose this hotel, since the kids love swimming. The hotel itself isn't bad, but I was disappointed to get a message saying the workout room was open 24/7, then be told by the front desk it closed at 11pm when we called to ask if we could get in. I mentioned the message, and she said they had a note, blah blah blah. Why send guests a text saying 24/7 if that isn't true? I paid a lot for one room, and the least they could've done was let us have some fun. That wasn't how it went. I want part of what I paid refunded for the false information. It deserves more than one star, but they disappointed me, so I'm disappointing them right back.

There were 11 of us in several rooms for Resurrection Sunday with family in Portales. All our rooms were clean, comfortable, and well maintained. The breakfast and coffee were great, and the room rates were very reasonable. The younger kids loved the pool, and the gym was well equipped. I'll always check availability here for future trips.

Marcie really made the stay better with her great customer service. The room was clean and comfortable, the bed super cozy, and breakfast was great. I also enjoyed the gym and pool. I had a great time at the Holiday Inn Express in Portales and will definitely come back and recommend it.
