Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Portland Airport

Only one of our three nights was peaceful. The room was clean, breakfast had a good range including gluten-free muffins, and the hotel was easy to find with simple airport access and a huge parking lot. We didn’t see bed bugs. But the basketball team staying there made the trip miserable. The kids ran through all three floors playing ding-dong-ditch at every hour for two days. Several guests complained, yet no one stopped them. I was told the coach had signed a contract after this happened last year, so why did it happen again? Where were the coach, parents, and hotel staff? Our room was right among some of the team, despite being told they’d tried to avoid that. When we complained again, they offered noon checkout, but our flight was at 10:30. Some compensation would have made more sense. As a travel agent, I’m unsure I can recommend a hotel that showed so little accountability.

The staff were kind, and the park-and-fly option was useful. The airport shuttle was easy, too. The lobby has been redecorated, but the older rooms felt small, stuffy, and dated. They were clean and there were no problems, but I expected something different from a Marriott property.

Our room had plenty of space, the bed was acceptable, and all the outlets worked. The front desk looked fine and the staff were friendly. Still, the hallway carpet was filthy and looked like it hadn’t been vacuumed or washed in ages. The hallway smelled nice, but our room reeked of cigarette smoke even though the hotel was advertised as non-smoking. There was a bug in the sink, and I didn’t notice until morning that we’d only been given one towel for two people.

I found a cockroach in my room and asked to check out with a refund, but they refused and moved me to another floor. They kept saying roaches couldn’t exist in Oregon because it’s too cold. I sent video proof, but nobody contacted me or even apologized. It’s been a few months with no reply and no refund. Don’t stay here.
