Best Western Poway/San Diego Hotel

The chemical odor was so strong that I asked to move rooms twice, and all three rooms had the same problem. It smelled like ammonia covering up a musty wet dog odor. I told the front desk I was pregnant and uncomfortable with the smell. The response was, “well, I don't go around sniffing every room.” The front desk guy also admitted the smell was strong and said he “didn't know they were doing that to the rooms.” I asked for a refund, but was told no managers would be available for several days. Best Western, you've been contacted. Please do the right thing here. I wouldn't recommend staying.

The worst part was finding blood on the fitted sheet, flat sheet, and blanket. I was exhausted, but that was too much to overlook. The first room was dirty too: stained carpet, an AC cover taped in place, and dead bugs in the bathroom light fixture. When I went back to the front desk, the same gentleman inspected the bed and moved us two doors down, into the handicap room he had said wasn't available. I had requested an accessible room when booking because of recent spine surgery. I'm using a walker and can't lift my leg over a tub. At check-in, the gentleman said there wasn't a handicap room and that the hotel wasn't really wheelchair accessible. I didn't argue, took a first-floor room, dropped off our bags, and left right away for an engagement. The second room had its own problems. The carpet was damp and sticky, so I had to wear shoes indoors. There was a large gap under the door, letting in bugs, moisture, and cold overnight air. The blinds were torn and their pull string had been ripped off, so we couldn't open them. The bloody bedding and the way the accessible room was denied while I was visibly struggling to walk were the most upsetting parts. We won't return to best Western. I kindly ask you to consider refunding some or all of my two-night stay.

The area was peaceful, and our rooms were clean and nice. Breakfast was really good too. Big shout out to Kristina, Abi and his friend for the great customer service.

I needed to cancel my two-night booking 24 hours ahead because of unforeseen circumstances, but the staff weren't helpful or sympathetic. They refused to cancel the second night even though I was within the cancellation window, and charged well over what the cancellation terms stated. This was my first time dealing with Best Western, and it'll be my last. Avoid this place. They lack integrity.
