Springhill Suites by Marriott Prince Frederick

Most of the hotel seemed renovated, but the room we had looked like it had been left out. We booked the same suite type as our friends and paid the same, yet their decor, furniture, and bedding were much nicer and more up to date. The lighting in our room was a god-awful yellow, and the few wall lamps barely gave enough light. The carpet and couch were stained and pretty scary. I know hotels don't usually have overhead lighting, but those lamps weren't enough. I hope our room gets the same update as the others. The stay itself was fine.

For our brief stay, we had reliable, fast Wi-Fi and a clean room. There was a mini fridge, microwave, bar sink, and ice bucket. The room also had a large, comfortable couch and a desk with a comfortable chair. The bathroom layout was split, with the shower and toilet in a private area and the sink separate.

I'm a loyal Marriott member, and this hotel really missed the mark. The second floor smelled musty and moldy throughout. In my room, mold was growing in the closet and the paint was peeling and chipping from the high humidity. There was no ventilation or exhaust, and the tub wouldn't drain. The pool area smelled dreadful, like mold, which was also visible in the air vents. This place is a health hazard.

The desk clerk was gracious and moved us when we complained about our first room. In the second, the bed was better and the bathroom grout was intact, but the wallpaper still peeled and the carpet was noticeably dirty. In the first room, the bed sagged, grout was coming out from the bathroom tiles, wallpaper was peeling and hanging, and the room smelled bad. We wanted to like the place during our stop after visiting the nearby state park, but the rooms felt worn out and breakfast was poor. The sandwiches were microwaved too long and had sat until the bottoms were hard and the tops soggy. They were inedible. There were English muffins, cinnamon bagels, and gluten-free muffins, but the quality was substantially poorer than I've seen elsewhere. I read that the hotel had been remodeled a couple of years ago and was only half done then, but I saw no sign of that work. It's a tired establishment that needs a refresh to compete.
