Courtyard by Marriott Providence Downtown

The room change was the biggest problem. I had booked two queen beds for four people for a team event, but only found an email in my junk folder saying they’d switched us to one king bed and a sofa. I never would have booked that setup for our group. The sofa was a rock-hard mat with no mattress. When I asked for one, the front desk chuckled. The event requirement meant I had to keep the room, and there were no others available. I’m also pretty sure I was overcharged, but I never got an invoice email to check the supposed discounted upgrade rate. Getting in and out was frustrating too. The gate key card didn’t work, and I had to back out onto a busy street when the gate wouldn’t open. Construction left debris in the elevator, with torn wall padding hanging there, and the place smelled dry and dusty. One entrance door was broken; the other had an icy walkway the day after a snowstorm. At least the convention center and mall were both about a five-minute walk away. That was my experience at this hotel.

The room was clean, and the shower was good, but I had a hard time sleeping. The bed was firm, and the pullout couch felt like a rock. It took a maintenance person cutting something before the bed could even be opened, and the remote wouldn’t turn on the TV. Starbucks wasn’t open during my stay. I was there for a cheer competition at the convention center. Renovations were happening, but they didn’t affect my stay. I wasn’t really a fan and will try somewhere else next time. I’m surprised by the high Google score, given how difficult it was to get comfortable.

Our room looked brand new and was very clean. The staff were great from check-in, offering area tips and being courteous. They also gave us a late checkout to work around my daughter’s cheerleader schedule. We’ll book here again.

There’s construction on the upper floors, and we weren’t told ahead of time. If we’d known, we would’ve stayed elsewhere. The noise is constant and so loud we can’t hear the TV, even on Christmas. It’s maddening. Staff tried moving us, but we could still hear the work in the new room. There was no manager on site because of the holiday. If you’re planning to stay here soon, call and ask whether construction is finished first. So loud.
