I won't stay here again. The staff member, a woman, was distracted and on her cell phone. The room smelled horrible, and there were no towels. I got up early to ask for clean ones, thinking maybe they hadn't been ready because we checked in late, but that wasn't the reason. The mini fridge didn't work, and the freezer was packed with ice. The TV barely worked, with most channels showing audio only. It was an awful stay. I might as well have slept in my car and saved $100.

The room had a lot of problems: the toilet still had poop in it when we arrived, there were stains or burn marks on the carpet, and the bed sagged unevenly, possibly because the frame was broken. The beds were roomy, at least. Breakfast was sparse and messy, and didn't seem very food safe, with lukewarm pancakes sitting in a mixing bowl covered with plastic wrap. When we parked, a woman on a bike circled the lot and seemed to peer into our car, which felt unsafe. The man checking us in seemed friendly enough, but talked over me to speak only with my husband. What century is this?

We didn't feel safe or comfortable and wish we'd stayed elsewhere. The neighborhood felt unsafe, though the hotel was conveniently close to I-5 and food options. There were questionable people around the hotel and lot, the stairwell wasn't secured, and people came and went. The elevator only stopped on the first and third floors, not the second. At 1:30 AM I heard a staff member yelling at someone outside to leave. The staff weren't bad, and I'm sure they were doing their best with what they had. Our room was spacious, but the carpet was gross, only one bed was somewhat comfortable, and the TV was mounted in a weird, inconvenient spot. The bathtub faucet leaked, the shower head was very low, the balcony door barely worked, and all the towels had spots. There was a patched ceiling from an upstairs leak, and the window opened without a screen or safety feature. A long-term resident above us had two large dogs who ran back and forth at 4:30 AM and woke us up. The patio furniture was just two plastic lawn chairs. The fridge worked; we didn't try the microwave. The seasonal pool and spa were disgusting and green. Breakfast looked fine, with the expected eggs, sausage or bacon, waffles, bread, juice, and cereal, though we didn't eat it. The hotel cost more than the Quality Inn around the corner and was much more disappointing. The owner or property manager needs to renovate and invest in making it safe and desirable.

There was no one at the front desk when we arrived to check in or when we came back to check out, so we had to wait both times. Employees tried calling the front desk staff on their phones, but nobody answered. Service was basically nonexistent. We also saw people we thought were drug users hanging out on the first floor all night. From our balcony, we watched them use the back door and then head to the dumpsters to do drugs, while police kept driving around to check on them. The room was dirty, with mildew in the bathroom and large ceiling stains from a leak that nobody fixed. Breakfast was terrible, with food left over from the previous day. We knew because the exact same items were in the exact same spots as when we checked in. Gross. The price wasn't worth it, and we won't return.

Some of the staff were clearly working hard. Every employee I encountered was helpful and polite, and housekeeping was doing its best with the tools available. The tub, toilet, sheets, and beds were clean, the free breakfast was generous and tasty, and I liked the stained-glass lobby window. The view from the balcony was decent, and this is one of the few hotels in Redding with balconies. It's fairly central, too. Still, the place needs maintenance, remodeling, and a professional deep clean. I stayed two nights after booking a two-queen room two weeks ahead, paying an average of $110 per night. The balconies need pressure washing and likely repainting, and their chairs should be more comfortable. The sliding door track was dirty and needed grease, so opening the door was difficult. The AC units leaked condensation over the balconies and need professional cleaning, remounting, and resealing. There were two of each kind of towel except washcloths, of which there was only one. The bathtub drains looked gross and should be replaced with something more modern. The room door had black marks or fingerprints, and the carpet needs replacing. A strong fake peach smell filled the room. I got used to it, but someone with asthma or allergies might have had to leave. The TV looked new, but its remote was old and broken. The outdoor hot tub had been drained, and the pool wasn't heated.
