Edge Water Inn

The parking lot has recently been repaved, and truckers can park in the lot next door. It's a quiet, clean motel with no sign of trouble while I was there. A nice little spot just outside town, and it looks like it was renovated recently.

We used this as a base for visiting Sequoia and Kings Canyon, and it was only about an hour from the entrance, so getting in early was easy. The town has pretty much anything you might need within five miles. The rooms were basic but clean. We did have trouble getting the shower going, until we figured out you have to pull down the tub nozzle.

The grounds had lovely flowers, citrus trees, and other local plants, and I watched the landscaper take careful care of everything. The pool was clean and well maintained, and breakfast was continental. The hotel itself was exceptionally clean, and the housekeeper, who's been there for nine years, was very pleasant and accommodating. Guests were pleasant to share the space with too. Thanks to the gentlemen who shared their homemade guacamole with my husband and me. This isn't a place for towels folded into animal shapes, but if you want a clean, comfortable stay with staff who take pride in their work, it feels like a home away from home.

I was here on business and tired, so being disturbed at 9:30 by Irene, the housekeeper, knocking when checkout wasn't until 11 was frustrating. The housekeepers also yelled across the parking lot to each other. Irene seemed to struggle moving her cart, and I found her rude and loud. The older woman, Esther, was rude too, though the evening girls were very sweet and helpful. I also didn't appreciate seeing the front desk clerk's children asleep on the floor Sunday morning, June 1. Getting into the room was a hassle because the key cards didn't work, and staff had to let us in several times. Mosquitoes gathered by the entry light and got into the room if you didn't hurry inside. There were also beetles in the room, and the sinks smelled awful, as if they hadn't been cleaned. Breakfast was a joke: packaged pastries, cereal, old fruit, cold coffee, and expired milk. This was the worst stay I've had, and I'll never come back.
