Hampton Inn & Suites Reno West

I’ve always liked Hampton and usually find the hotels friendly, clean, accommodating, and helpful. I’ve never had a problem before, but this location has put me off booking there again. I recently booked one night, then noticed the dates were wrong. I couldn’t cancel without paying a $165 fee, so I contacted the hotel to ask to move the booking one day earlier. The website showed availability for that night, but they refused to change it and I’m still being made to pay the fee. Now I have to travel overnight with two young kids. Very poor management.

The hotel itself is nice and the breakfast was good, but we had no hot water in the shower for all four nights of our Christmas break stay. We were a family of four, and after skiing and sledding in winter, a hot shower was essential. We raised it with the front desk three times, but they neither fixed the shower nor offered another room. For $200+ a night, this was very disappointing. The hotel also advertises a hot tub or spa, but it had been removed in October 2025.

The bathroom’s sliding door leaves a gap of about two inches because the stopper seems badly installed, so it won’t close all the way. When I asked the front desk to fix it, the employee said it was an “intended design” for safety and nothing could be done. That felt like a lazy excuse. A bathroom door that doesn’t shut properly ruins privacy and isn’t acceptable. The room was clean and recently renovated, and this is a reasonably priced alternative for skiing around Tahoe during ski season.

The beds are a little stiff, but I don’t have any real complaints. The rooms are spacious, quiet, and always clean, and the front desk staff are consistently courteous. Even though it’s close to the freeway, you never hear the traffic.
