Travelodge by Wyndham Savannah Area Richmond Hill

I checked in at 2:25 AM, intending to stay for two nights after a long, tiring day. The sign outside showed $39.99, but inside I was quoted much more. The front desk attendant, an Indian gentleman who was otherwise polite, said that price was “for the month.” That’s misleading. If the rate is for long-term stays, the sign should say so. It felt like bait-and-switch advertising, since travelers are drawn in by a price they can’t actually get. The first room had a harsh, chemical-like odor that immediately gave me a headache. I asked to move, hoping it was just that room, but the second smelled exactly the same. The bathroom odor was even stronger, like cleaning chemicals that hadn’t been cleared out. It was intense enough to make me worry about my health, and it seemed to affect the whole building. When I reported it, staff gave me a spray bottle and offered incense to cover the smell instead of investigating or finding a safer option. I’ve stayed in plenty of hotels and never been offered incense to mask a chemical odor. It made the problem seem ongoing and unaddressed. A hotel keeping air freshener and incense ready for guests is a major red flag. Between the confusing rate, the strong odors, and the quick cover-up instead of a solution, this was an uncomfortable and concerning stay. The smell caused an immediate headache, so anyone sensitive to odors or chemicals should avoid it. There are several hotels in this area with quality problems, but this one was especially bad. I wouldn’t stay here again.

The room had a broken fridge, which they replaced, and a broken microwave. The parking lot seemed to get more attention for cleaning and upkeep than the rooms. There are worse places, but keep your expectations low and check anything you’re handed. Customer service needs serious work. The staff were candid and polite, but the receipts were wrong and the charges were represented improperly. That lack of integrity made the stay a bad one. The room also didn’t live up to what the photos showed.

The front desk service was awesome, and they take great care of guests. The beds were the most comfortable, the parking lot and breakfast area were clean, and the place felt very safe and drug-free. There are restaurants nearby, and the washer and dryer are up to date.

It was a nice stay. The room was cleaned well and smelled so good. Nothing fancy, but everything was well maintained. Breakfast was okay.
