Residence Inn by Marriott Richmond West End

We were glad to have this as our temporary home while I started my new job in the Richmond area. The staff were very nice, and the studio felt complete and comfortable, like having a whole apartment. It is a bit older, but with our small dog, the direct access outdoors was really convenient. Breakfast was a full buffet, and it varied from day to day.

As a Marriott Titanium member, I would have sent this straight to Marriott, but their review process isn't easy. The room door was very hard to open and lock, and there was an uncovered electrical outlet right in the middle of the living room floor, a safety concern for families with small children. I've never stayed at a Residence Inn with no silverware at all. At minimum, there should be a few forks, spoons, and butter knives. The property and rooms are dated and need a complete refurbishment, not just paint. They don't meet the standard of Marriott's recent renovations. I also find the $10 nightly charge to park in Marriott's own lot ridiculous, though I knew about it before booking. There are multiple separate buildings with exterior doors, so to me it felt more like a motel. I should have checked Google Maps or other sources before reserving.

Breakfast was satisfying and had something for everyone, and even with the $10 parking fee, I thought the overall value was worthwhile, especially with breakfast included. The property is a little worn, but clean and comfortable, and the team's care made our stay. Wendy got us started efficiently and warmly, George was attentive and helpful, and Brandon stood out for his professionalism, kindness, and good humor. We had a wonderful stay at the Residence Inn on Dickens in Richmond and would happily return.

After more than 13 hours on the road, my family of five chose this affordable place for one night. We won't be back. The toilet seat was loose, the sheets and towels were dirty, and the keypad lock on the front door was broken. The place felt rundown, outdated, and unclean. Breakfast was free, but the room was worse; before I could even get onto the highway, my stomach started hurting, and it was over an hour before I felt okay. At least I didn't get bed bugs. When a place is this bad, something has to change.
