Hampton Inn & Suites Jackson-Ridgeland

Breakfast was sparse, with some empty spots on the bar, and I didn’t get a response when I greeted the front desk, just a “Can I help you?” The service didn’t feel especially welcoming. There were no warm cookies while I was there, either. Still, the hotel was quiet, the room was fairly clean, and there was plenty of parking at the front, back, and along the street. The Renaissance shopping center is within walking distance, which is why I’d stay again. For a hotel in such a nice area, I expected more extras like mouthwash, a face-cleansing cloth, or a shower cap, as some Hampton’s provide. The bed felt a bit too soft for us, and the fitted sheet didn’t sit well on the mattress.

The staff were nice, but this was the costliest Hilton property we used on a long cross-country trip, and the one with the most issues. At 40% more per night than any of the others across seven states, I expected much more for the area. There isn’t much nearby besides other hotels, and the restaurants and activities are a highway exit up or down. Our room was worn and dated, with carpet worn down to the base. The refrigerator didn’t work and needed defrosting, there were no USB ports by the bed, and no luggage carts were available.

Things went downhill over my stay. On the first day I reported the dirty bathroom and missing conditioner. The next day I ran out of shampoo and told the front desk. I also found a gecko in the room and reported it; they seemed to care. But when I got back late that evening, the room still hadn’t been serviced for the third day, and the toiletries and shampoo were still missing. It wasn’t a good experience.

We arrived early as a bus group, and the front desk staff worked with us to get into our rooms ahead of schedule. They were caught somewhat off guard, and communication was lacking, but they stayed professional and accommodated us. They were awesome.
